IR-6 is the classification symbol for spouses of U.S. citizens who have adjusted status. Normally, the spouse of a U.S. citizen is an IR-1. That's the immigrant visa classification. When an alien adjusts status inside the U.S., the number 5 is added to the classification so IR-1 changes to IR-6.
Another person said that IR-6 means parent of a U.S. citizen. However, IR-5 is the classification for parent of a U.S. citizen. If the parent adjusted status, the classification would be IR-0 because there is no "IR-10." The software only accepts 3 characters. |
