I have a work permit for one job but want to apply for a work permit for a different job?

This is for Alberta, Canada? How would I do this? Is it a long process? Would the recession be a factor?

It will NOT be easy.

First you must find an employer in that new job to apply for you and they must get a new LMO before you can be issued with a new WP.

and when you apply, the first WP will be voided immediately effectively making you illegal.

WPs are NOT issued to people already inside Canada - so you will have to get a new job and then go home and wait for the new employer to be approved and send you the new WP.

And yes the recession may make a differecne as many canadian residents and citizens are being laid off now so they will get first pick at all new jobs - before the foreigners.
