I have an Indian passport expiring in 3 months but with a valid US visa for 09 years. what happens to the visa?

I have not travelled to the US at all even with the visa. Does the visa expire on expiry of my passport, or on renewal of the passport the visa is still valid along with the old passport?

The visa doesn't expire only your passport :) i just renewed my passport :) and nothing changed.. make sure that when you travel to the US you bring your new and your old passport. :) good luck

First, before expiry of your passport, apply for renewal. As the 'Visa' is pasted on your present passport, the passport office will not keep it. You will have to show it only. Even after issuing new passport, the office will not ask for older one. While entering or leaving any country you have to carry both the passports.

Your Visa will remain valid till the last date. So don't worry about the Visa.

Your visa continuing is on condition that you have not violated the terms of your passport being issued from the government of India and provided India is happy to re-issue another passport then all you need to do is ask the US government to transfer the visa to your new passport. The process will cost you some money, require that you are without your passport for a period of time but is fairly straight forward.

The visa stays there. You need to renew your Indian passport first and keep the old passport with the visa together until you endorse the US visa into your new passport.
