I heard in S.S. class today that Obama is letting people go to Cuba and Cuba people come over here.My class was talking and I asked my teacher if they (Cuba ppl.) would like hide and live here. I don't think it is a good idea AT ALL. what do you think?

Cubans are a wonderful people, mired by their dictator, who is on his death bed...good riddance. Please think for yourself. It will benefit the entire world. |

Obama is going to let Americans travel to Cuba.
The government of Cuba will NOT let Cubans travel to the United States. If the government of Cuba permitted Cubans to travel 70% of the country would be gone in a matter of months.
In truth, Americans have been going to Cuba for years. Any Canadian or Mexican travel agency can book a trip there. The Cubans will be happy not to stamp your passport so that no evidence of the trip exists. |

Well, the only real reason we had the embargo in place was because we hoped that it would force Fidel Castro out of power. It never worked out and only served to contribute to the daily suffering of Cubans.
Now Fidel is sick and Raul is much less radical than his brother. Opening up relations with Cuba could only help us economically (sugar and coffee imports and so forth).
The Cold War is over. We've palled around with Cuban dictators before (Fulgencio Batista) when they were nice to us. We have diplomatic relations with China and are in fact their biggest customer (which is why they keep buying our debt), thanks to Richard Nixon. |

American citizens will be allowed to visit Cuba. Yes, it's a good idea. The embargo is an outdated, worthless failure backed solely by people who are willing to hurt their own family members to lash out at Fidel Castro. You wanna end Communism in Cuba? Americanize them. Start visiting, let McDonald's, KFC, LJS, Pac Sun, and all that other garbage set up shop down there. Get the kids watching the Disney channel. Communism will last 10 more years, tops. |
