I live in Scotland, how do I emigrate to Southern Ireland?

Not wishing to be rude but under current nationality law being born in the UK doesn't automatically make you a British citizen.

However, if you are a British citizen you can just pick & go to live in the Republic of Ireland (it is the Republic of Ireland, not Southern Ireland - it may seem like I'm being picky but I do know you will incur the wrath of several forum users if you refer to the Republic as Southern Ireland). If you are a British citizen or a citizen of an EU member country you can settle where you wish in the EU. Under older Irish legislation you can move to the Republic & expect to be treated as if you are an Irish citizen - you can vote in all elections but as a British citizen you can't vote in a referendum.

This is a link which has useful information for British citizens moving abroad, it includes information on sorting out your pension, social welfare etc

This is a link to an Irish site which includes useful information on moving to the Republic of Ireland

Go West, until you come upon a large body of water; Cross that, then go South !

Hibee
Hop on a ferry. We're all part of the EU.

Just move - no need for a visa since you have an EU passport

You have a right to work and to live there. I'm British but my home is now in Spain.

Scotland and Ireland are both in the EU.
If you have a British passport you can just go over there and stay.
You don't need a visa. :-)

You just go there and live.Ireland and UK have always had a free movement system.Irish people have never had to file anything to live and work here and vice versa.Just apply for a NI number when you get there and have an address

Don't even think about it, things are so bad here right now and about to get a lot worse. Unemployment figures are at an all time high and we're having trouble trying to keep our own plus all the "new Irish". It's not a good time.
