I lost my green card 3 months ago. I filled out I-90 to apply for a replacement about 4 days ago. The thing is that i want to go on a cruise in about month(March) and rules of every single cruise line state that you have to have 2 things to board cruise ship. 1. Proof of citizenship and 2. Proof of ID.
I can easily prove my ID by showing my drivers license. But the thing is that i can not prove my citizenship because i wont have my replacement greencard on time..! So anyone knows if i can get some kind of paper from USCIS or somewhere that can serve as prove that i am Permanent resident of US??
Please help !!!! And tell if you experienced that before..

Temporary evidence of registration and lawful admission for permanent residence may be issued to a lawful permanent resident alien, provided that the alien has applied on Form I-90 for a replacement Form I-551. You need to communicate with the office where you filed your I-90 to request temporary evidence of lawful admisison for LPR status.

You can get a temporary stamp in your passport. However, this will not solve your cruise problem, you will still need to get visas for the countries you will be visiting since you are not a US citizen. |

Why did you wait 3 months to report the card missing?
As a LRP you are required to carry the I-551 with you at all times. Failure to do so, can result in fines or other penalties, so again why did you wait 3 months?
If you leave the country and try to reenter without your I-551 you are subject to a substantial monetary penalty - and the proof that you knew that you didn't have the I-551 in your possession is your application for a replacement card. |
