H1b visas are for work that requires a university degree or its equivalent in training and experience. They are limited in number though, and there are always more people applying than there are available visas. First you have to find an employer who is willing to hire you and file the paperwork. then they have a lottery in April to determine which people will have a chance at getting the visa. But, the petitions aren't valid until October, so at that point you can apply and have an interview. these days, the chances of finding someone who would be willing to wait so long on the chance that you might get a visa aren't very good unless you have an especially strong application.

You need luck, U.S. is in an economic crisis with unemployment at an all time high, last thing we need to to import more workers to compete with our Americans that are out of work.
