The crime rate proportional to population is no worse in in America than the UK. That is a common misconception mainly because the statistics are manipulated or presented by the anti gun crowd in the USA and like to use the UK as an example but they don't consider the proportion to population or other violent crime in the UK.

The USA has more gun crime proportionally but overall not more violent crime, guns are simply the weapon of choice in the USA. American criminals tend to shoot people and British criminals stab or beat them, its just a question of how you die rather than if. Criminals are criminals and will find a way to hurt people with whatever they have handy, thats why taking guns away won't do anything except disarm those that will obey the law and don't go around shooting people anyway, the UK is a perfect example of that, gun crime is on the rise in the UK and the only people who have them are the criminals. They don't obey gun laws. At least in the USA you can defend yourself, in the UK the community are helpless victims and if they retaliate or defend themselves they are thrown in prison.

In answer to the question , it is not hard to become a US citizen but if you don't have a relative here or you don't marry a US citizen , you have to pick a profession that America wants or needs or is lacking in and go by the employment route, you can't just move here, there is a process of visa application you have to go through . Nursing is the best profession by far to get into the USA. They have a 30 year projected shortage and nurses are top of their immigration list ,nurses are very well paid here, I know because I am one . Once you are here , you have to live here for 5 years or 3 years if you are married to an American in order to apply for citzenship.

I live in the US and I am like you from the UK and British. Whilst America is not perfect it is still in my opinion overall a better place to live than the UK. Just got to pick the right part of the USA. On a lighter note I am happy to live somewhere warm, oh how I hate British weather. Don't miss it at all!

It is not easy to move to the US. You need to find an American company that is willing to sponsor you.

The USA is a great place, but it has its share of problems just like the UK. Be careful that you aren't exchanging one set of problems for another.

Do you want to exchange places? I live here and it's messed up. Especially with this economy. Unemployment, crime (depending on where you go) I would stay put.

If you cannot adjust in the UK it is unlikely you will find it any easier in the USA. If by then you have learned to recognise that becoming a US citizen alone cannot fulfil all your expectations ---you will find it easier.

Once you find a sponsor you can make the move. The US has its problems but compared to where you are now it's paradise.
