The green card lottery is also called the DV (diversity visa) lottery. Each year, 50,000 immigrant visas are made available through a lottery to people who come from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. Anyone who is selected under this lottery will be given the opportunity to apply for permanent residence. If permanent residence is granted, then the individual will be authorized to live and work permanently in the United States. You will also be allowed to bring your spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21 to the United States.

I have seen the website of usafis (http://www.usafis.org), and I have to say it looks shady. I say this because you are required to submit your personal info (home phone, email address, etc) and financial information (like credit cards and expiration dates). Next thing you know, they'll be calling you and emailing you to squeeze money out of you.

Do not give out any personal or financial information to usafis or you'll be sorry. You don't need usafis or any organization to enter the lottery. You can easily do it yourself. Entering the lottery is free, but if you win, you must pay a fee for an immigrant visa and a separate visa lottery surcharge. But remember that no one is supposed to get in touch with you by phone or email.

Be careful of scams. There are lots out there. Remember that the winners will never be notified by phone or email, only by mail at the addresses listed on their applications. Winners will be sent instructions and information on fees. Being selected as a winner in the diversity visa lottery does not automatically guarantee that you will be issued a visa, even if you are qualified. The number of entries selected is greater than the number of immigrant visas available, because not everyone selected will be qualified for the visa or will choose to complete the processing. Once all 50,000 visas have been issued, the diversity visa program for the year will end.

The 2008 lottery application has ended, but DV-2009 Lottery starts soon. The DV-2009 Lottery begins at Noon EDT on October 3, 2007, and ends at Noon EST on December 2, 2007. Here's the website from the US Department of State where applicants may enter during the registration period:

i dont know.. but the USA is not what you may think it is.. there is alot of mean but some nice people... you might like it.. there are a lot of cool country places to live and if you like a big city then there are a lot of them.. california is expensive though..so if you want to go somewhere cheap dont go there.

I got mine at the American embassy in my country ,but it's not that easy to get one though.But Canada is so much better, great Health care and so on, why do you want to come to the states.

If you have the right skills, you can work with an employer to get in, but my question to you is: "Why would want to move away from your universal health care system?"
