First speak to the Scottish Immigration people so you know what you need to live there permanently. Learn as much as you can about the country before you make such an important decision. |

five years legal residence in the UK
indefinite leave to remain or equivalent must have been held for 12 months
the applicant must intend to continue to live in the UK or work overseas for the UK government or a British corporation or association.
the same language and knowledge of life in the UK standards apply as for those married to British citizens
All applicants for naturalisation must be of "good character". Naturalisation is at the discretion of the relevant authority but is normally granted if the requirements are met.
Those applying for British citizenship in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (where the application is mainly based on residence in the Crown Dependencies rather than the UK itself) do not have to sit the Life in the UK Test under policies in effect as of August 2006. In due course, it is expected that Regulations will be introduced to that effect in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. The provisions for proving knowledge of English, Welsh or Scottish Gaelic remain unchanged until that date for applicants in the Crown Dependencies. In the rare cases where an applicant is able to apply for naturalisation from outside the United Kingdom, a paper based version of the Life in the UK Test may be available at a British diplomatic mission. You need a visa before you can move to Scotland. You will have to have a good degree, a Masters is better, you will need experience in your field and will then need to find a Scottish employer who is willing to sponsor you for a visa. You will have to be better than any EU citizen who wants the job as they have priority before you. After EU citizens Commonwealth citizens have priority so you will be last in the line for any job. If you do get a job and visa it will be some time before you can apply for British citizenship. |

If it's not a stupid, or rude question, why do you want to renounce your American citizenship? Don't they allow you to have dual nationality with the UK there? My wife is Brasilian & she has dual nationality. |

Try Vancouver instead. A couple years ago they were offering an alternate to US lifestyle. My son's sister-in-law came from there to US. I think she said it was about the same though. You can get a dual citizenship I think.
Oh yeah, and don't forget, "No matter where you go, there you are" |

for what reason do you wish to renounce your US citizenship?
Under US laws you CANNOT renounce your citizenship JUST to avoid paying taxes. That is a jailable offence.
IRS can force you to pay taxes (for income greater than $80,000 I think) on the basis that you are US citizen, no metter where in the world you are.
Other countries generally only tax on residency, not on citizenship. |

consider the reason what you want to leave for if you think other places there is no racism well surprise racist are where the devil and his demons also are.....the devil is every where, so just Love God and also do as He says as to Love your enemy(pray for them) and reject all that is evil and you'll be fine....go to confession and repent of your sins and the truth will set you free. Jesus is the way the truth and the life follow him and you won't be lost. |

You need to be more specific as to why you wish to migrate. Perhaps you will get a better response that way. |

Simple as ABC. Go online and follow the steps for your renunciation. You don't even have to report back to us.

And it's up to Scotland to accept you or not. By the way, I hope you'd be taking all those America-destroying rogues with you. |

in God's world it is not a good idea to renounce a citizenship of any part of His world to be a global citizen. you might have been finding it difficult to live in for the time being. people realise their mistakes, mend themselves and minds change. However if dual citizenship is not allowed in Scotland you might not have a choice in that case.
i myself, was born in one country, grew up in another, married to a lady from another, lived in yet another and now working in another. I am rather an alien from heaven waiting for a call to return to homeland. (think about that you're a visiting citizen from heaven. anywhere you're useful dont mind living there.) |

Go to Scotland. Go to the American consulate or whatever they call it. Turn in your passport. Go to the local embassy and apply for citizenship (you wont get it but they'll let you stay with a stateless persons visa). And your done. Remember to join some kind of anti-American organization while your there so that the U.S. will have a good excuse not to take you back. |
