I485 Processing for an expired visa?

My wife entered the country legally on a visa and her visa expired April 2008 and we were married in May 2008. I was told that we just need to file the I-485 and all the supporting forms. Biometric, medical exam, affividavit of support...etc
If USCIS needs more information, they'll let me know right?

If she came here on a K-1 visa and got married within 90days upon her arrival she will file I-485 and all other required forms.Otherwise you need to include I-130. If anything is lacking in the documents the USCIS will send an RFE (Request for Further Evidence) asking you to accomplish the missing documents.

Well, you would also need to file an I-130 immigrant petition and a work authorization request. Check out uscis.gov and look up the instruction sheet for the I-485 in the forms section. read through all that, and the seperate bits elsewhere on how to go about doing this. the I-485 adjustment form has to be based on the I-130. it's the approval of the I-130 that allows her to adjust.
