If Britain is so bad why do half of the world want to live here is it just the free benefit system?

Sorry to post something different, but things have changed.

First, you can not come to the UK and just get benefits. Even if you are an EU national, you must have worked in the UK before you are entitled to benefits. The difference is for those UK nationals who are 'habitually resisdent' in the UK, who are entilted to get benefits with out ever working.

For refugees from other countries, (asylum seekers), they do not get much say when it comes to where they live in the UK, they can be moved at short notice, and quite often, they can get housed in the chapest housing available, i.e. the crappest.

Check out the links. Of course there are a few who manage to fiddle the system, but there are far more UK nationals who fiddle the system and all those who try and abuse the welfare system in the UK, be they born here or are born elsewhere are tossers in my view.

I love living here and am proud to be English. I'm also proud that people from other parts of the world are welcome here. Our system is abused and it needs to be sorted out.
Immigrants have always been encouraged to live here, by our government, but the problem arrises when people abuse the system. If you offer people free money then of course they will take it. It's not thier fault, I'd do the same if I wanted to better my life. The problem is our slack laws. If that ever gets sorted out then we can carry on bieng proud and stop bieng bitter. I get fed up with paying tax too, knowing that it will be used by human sponges. These people are also born within our own country. Theres millions of UK residents that could get off thier arses and get a job. In a nutshell, the only thing to blame is our slack immigration and benefit system.

I think most of those that say Britain is crap do not realise how lucky they are to live here. Sure there are things that need to be improved, and instead of just moaning stand up and do something!

Ngumba is wrong. Problem is that the U.K. and America and other non muslim countries treat muslims with too much respect. Why should anyone respect a person that thinks they are better than others because of religion. Hypocrites.

Actually, the vast majority of people would rather live in their own countries. If they had to choose any other country, it would more likely be America or Oz, than the UK.

The benefit system is not open to most immigrants. Personally I think it should be less available to Brits as well!

Because the ones that say its bad are the ones that want to come over and abuse the benefits system but dont like the fact the the british nationals have a problem with that. God forbid we spend the money on nurses wages or something important when they need to come over and get us to support their families!

The UK is great if all you want to do is sit on your ars.e and milk the system. You will be surrounded by a 1000 lefty liberals telling you the best ways to get hand outs and patting you on the back you poor poor immigrant, We must look after you.

I believe people come here for differents reasons. Some come here because the country they have left is very poor, and they want a better life by working here. There are a few who come here just because of the benefits, but not everyone. You can earn much more by working, then your standard benefits. "So be a real man, and earn your money".

New immigrants and asylum seekers in UK to not receive benefits when they arrive in UK.

Everything is stacked against them. In the case of the asylum seeker, they must first prove their story to the satisfaction of the immigration authorities.

Most of the people simply end up in holding camps from whence they are dumped back into their own countries.

UK is not entirely stupid, even if it often gives that impression. We all know that among any group of asylum seekers there are the 'villains' who must first be rooted out.

The British have long experience of dealing with this sort of problem.

The reason why many immigrants and asylum seekers want to come to UK is because we are the 'stepping stone' to the USA. Get here and you might be able to get there.

That's my theory anyway!

Most of those Britons bad mouthing the place have never had any experience living in another country (not just two weeks in Benidorm). They really have no idea what they are talking about. Two thirds of UK citizens that emigrate return within two years. No where is perfect, everywhere has it's problems.

Too true. The poxxy government of ours are clueless. If they had any sense they would introduce a 5 year qualifying period where foreign nationals who want to live in the UK get absolutely f*ck all in the way of benefits until that time period has elapsed. That would show their true commitment. I am willing to bet my *** not many would want to come here after that little bombshell landed.
