Should it be cheaper for illegal immigrants to attend U.S. colleges than for U.S. citizens? Yes, according to lawmakers in California, Illinois, Kansas, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Washington.

Illegal immigrants residing in these states are eligible for in-state tuition rates at state colleges and universities. These rates afford a significant cost savings compared to the tuition rates charged to out-of-state students. On average, an out-of-state student pays three times as much in tuition costs as an in-state student to attend the same school. In some states this means an out-of-state student pays as much as $40,000 more over four years.

It's no secret that the Senate immigration bill rewards 12-20 million illegal aliens with immediate amnesty. What is less well known is that the bill also allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition rates at public universities, discriminating against U.S. citizens from out of state and law-abiding foreign students.

These provisions are buried deep in the Senate bill. They are part of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act section.

Depends on the state you invaded. You should contact the state college of your choice and see if proof of residence or citizenship is a factor for attendance.

In my state (California), I think you can attend and they'll try to get you grants.

YES YES YES!!! I have tons of friends who were illegal immigrants that went to a community college first. You would have to pay from your own pocket, and then keep on checking if you can get a student visa and also keep on checking how you can get a legal status in this country. Check the news and an immigration lawyer. If you speak spanish, check www.univision.com and go to the immigration link. Congratulations for wanting to get an education, and please ignore those racist comments from ignorant people. This country is a mixed community, nobody is really from here except for native americans, but I bet all this people that are posting stupid comments are not native americans...so ignore them! Unfortunately there are a lot ignorant people you'll bump into, just keep your chin up! Go to a community college and ask them what you can do to register there. Yes, but probably just at night - through continuing education programs. Find out if your college has Continuing education in the evenings .
But getting credit for what you take at school you may need identification.

Unfortunately you can't! In order to go to college or a university you have to be at least a legal resident of the United States. Only U.S. residents and citizens have the privilege of attending school after high school. But you might want to look into international students. Many non-residents or non-citizens from other countries have studied in U.S. colleges and universities as international students. But i think that in order to do that you'll have to be attending school in your country of origin. That's about the only way that i can think of an illegal attending college or university in the U.S. Hope this helps!

It is very difficult to attend college if you cannot establish that you are either a citizen, permanent resident or that you have a visa.

That said, yes, there are still some colleges that do not require applicants to establish their immigration status prior to enrolling. However, cost is often a major mitigating factor.

inform yourself well before you answer.. anyways.. yes you can attend college. there are TONS of scholarships for undocumented students. Also,schools are willing on helping you financially if they know of your status. For example, schools like Dominican, DePaul, Olivet in Illinois are schools who will help you with scholarships. There's always ways to do things, just do your research. Good Luck.
