If I'm married to a Spanish citizen, how can I get my Spanish residence?

I was a Spanish resident (student residence card) for 2 years in Spain. My husband (who is a Spanish citizen) and I got married last April in Toledo. We continued to live in Spain after my student residence card expired and then moved to the states in June. We are planning to move back to Spain this summer.

I would like to get a residency card (perminant residency) in Toledo. I have been getting the run around from both the American and Spanish Embassies. No one seems to be able to give me a clear answer as to exactly where I need to go, what I need to have, or what I need to do.

If anyone has gone through this process please help me. I know how long these things take in Spain and I want to get this done as quickly as possible.
