Hi, I was planning and hoping to move to the US with a friend sometime this year but the immigration and green card process is confusing.
So I was just wondering what the steps were to legally being able to work in the US.
Any suggestions, advice, and/or links would be very helpful.

you don't need an I-551(green card) to work legally in the United States.
You can also apply for an EAD (employment authorization document) which will entitle you to legally work and you will recieve a Social Security Number for Tax purposes. You will need to prove your
residency in canada, how long you have been there and some other things. I would advise you to ask at a Port Of Entry for more information.

I don't have an specific answer to that, since NAFTA was in place the laws have changed, but I'm surprised you want to work in the US when I know some Americans that want exactly the opposite. I guess nobody is really happy where they are. I suggest that you try to find an sponsor if you have an specialty field. That would make the process smoother and easier to transfer a visa to a residency Good luck. |

You need a degree that qualifies you for a "TN Visa" (do a yahoo search). If you do not have such a degree there are no jobs for you in the USA. The only other way is to marry a US citizen. |
