Find answers to your legal question.

If I renew my passport as a 16 year old, how would I do that?

I got my passport when I was about 10-11 and it now expired. I looked on the website as to how i would go about to renew my passport and i am kind of confused.

The link for renewing a passport when you are 16 & 17 sent me to the page to apply for a passport for the first time.

is this right? i am basically applying for another passport? and meaning i have to pay the full fee for a new passport?

also, do i need BOTH parents to attend? or can i just bring my dad?

I don't blame you for the confusion, the info could not be less helpful but I think I have the answers for you.

Since you have not had a passport as an adult (16+) you are required to go through the process as a NEW applicant even though you have an expired prior passport.

http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html

You must submit form DS-11.

All Minors Age 16 and 17 shall:
* Appear in person at the time of application
* Have a parent or guardian present photo identification if the minor does not have identification of his or her own
* Establish parental consent (You may be requested to provide written parental consent for a child age 16 or 17 if it is not implied on the application)

Now you have your old passport for ID, so according to this you don't need a parent present. But you probably do need a parent’s notarized written statement consenting to passport issuance. I looked at the application form and there is no place to include an approval, but I assume if your parent is there to identify you then you have "implied" approval and the form does indicate that you were identified.

So I think you take your dad and a notarized statement from your mom to be completely safe.

However, you probably should call
FOR INFORMATION, QUESTIONS, AND INQUIRIES: ...
you can contact the National Passport Information Center (NPIC) toll–free at 1–877–487–2778 (TDD: 1–888–874–7793) or by e–mail at NPIC@state.gov. Customer Service Representatives are available M–F, 6AM–12 Midnight Eastern Time (excluding federal holidays).

But really, it's not such a big deal -- fill out the form, get your photos, bring the money and show up with your old passport and the worst that will happen is they tell you what you need and you make another trip.

You haven't even said what country you live in.

You go to the passport office and fill out an application for renewal. At least in my country. How else would you do it?

=^_^=
Okay, this is complicated because passport-wise, you are an adult. But you are technically still a minor. I'm pretty sure you do need to apply for a new passport completely, but I am unsure about parental approval. Sorry I'm not much help.

styrckt
you need to go to the post office with a birth certificate , your old passport and passport photos. it's $65

the person below me gave the same amswer ..just a long drawn out version, yet i get voted down..

I repeat>old passport,<> birthcertificate<,> passport photos< ,> $65< !!!
I didn't see the need to write a novel
