As long as the US citizen spouse has the income and resources to sponsor you..and is legally free to marry..meaning they are either divorced or have never been married..then yes.
You can file for a fiance visa..then come to the US and get married. Takes roughly a yr, give or take, to process this visa.
If you get married, say in a 3rd country, then you will have to apply for a spousal visa. This also takes roughly a yr, give or take, to process.
If you come over under the visa waiver program and decide to get married..it is going to take roughly 4-6 months to process this application. (not years) ((Been there, done that. My husband is British, and we got married in the US while he was here under the visa waiver program. Took right at 6 months to process)) (((Email me if this is a route you are interested in taking)))
Good luck to you.

Of course!
But you must apply for a visa nonetheless. |

Couple points, first you need to have met him, go back and then apply for a marriage visa. I think its called a k-1. Make sure you apply in britian as it will take you 5+ years to get a visa if you marry while in the country.
k-1 can take anywhere from 6 months to a year. |

not the day after they wedding, NO
the US partner would have to apply to the CIS for their new spouse to immigrate
the british spouse would have to stay in UK until the processing is complete - this can take anywhere up to 12 months. |

Marriage is no guarantee of a visa and permission to reside in the US. Proper procedures must be followed, application for visa, the sponsor's proof of sufficient income & assets to guarantee the support of the person they are petitioning for, etc. Only if the visa is approved can the spouse enter the US and apply for a conditional (temporary) green card. It's only valid for two years, IF the marriage is valid and ongoing. If the marriage ends, or they separate, divorce, etc, it's the end of permission to remain in the US. |
