If everyone is free, how comes were not allowed to go to any country we want to without having a passport?

The Passports aren't there to prevent people from traveling but to keep them in check. Or would you like to visited from terrorists and murderers from other countries?

The problem is that although we are relatively free within the United States, or pretty much any country of the western world, we are not just free in general. For the most part countries don't want foreigners, into their own countries. A great example of why visa and passports are so important is that if countries let who ever in then there would be a lot more 9/11s. The world is not a big happy place where everyone and every nation loves each other, but that is just a result of human nature.

You are free but with freedom comes rules for your safety and the safety of people around you. As we have all seen even all the rules sometimes do not work. Countries want and need to know who is coming, going, and staying. Even with rules there will always be people who break them or think any rules do not apply to them.

The passport is nothing more that proof that you are an American citizen - and have the right to return to our country.

A visa is permission granted by another country for you to visit them.

And if you think that allowing people to walk across the border any time they feel like it is a good idea - consider the issues we are having with illegal immigration right now.

I understand your sarcasm and empathize. I wish it would rain gold, and I could sit and eat ice cream and never gain weight.

It is ironic how illegals complain that they can't just go from country to country without any problem. And that they should be able to come into the USA and live here without any rules applying to them. I agree. I would love to go live in a country with universal health care, free secondary education, and all sorts of other social safety nets, but I can't because they won't let me.

Viks is asking an Immigration H1B question about how to bring his parents to stay indefinitely and get the government to pay for their health care. Why not? Shouldn't the USA pay for all the H1Bs parents' health care? After all, they are here, shouldn't we take care of them now?
