If free trade is impossible without free migration, why do conservatives want to close the border?

Immigration in and out of the of a nation is essential to free trade. Since conservatives are supposed to be the torch bearers for free trade, why do they get so up in arms about the Mexican border? I already know the answer to this is "because they are racist". I just like to hear all the republicans who don't know why they're republicans holler 'We're against ILLEGAL immigration!' without realizing immigration being illegal is not free migration, hence, conservative policy is against free trade. :)

This is absolutely hilarious! I would have thought before that anyone who considered themselves to be for 'free trade' would have read the political philosophy and science behind the theory. All of which concludes that 'free trade' is impossible without 'free migration'. So anyone below who states that these to things are separate doesn't know what the **** they are talking about! ROFL!

Trade and immigration are two entirely different, unrelated matters.
The USA has free trade with China but immigration is minimal.

We're against illegal immigration because they they hurt the economy, don't pay taxes and are basically sneaking in and working under the table. They are taking, but not giving anything in return. You don't need free immigration to have a free trade...

This is an example of "when cousins marry" logic. There is no relationship between immigration and free trade (unless you're alluding to human bondage and that was outlawed years ago). If you want to put the illegal immigration issue into an economic context let's consider the word "trade". It implies each side gets something of value. What does the United States get in value for the flood of illegals into this country? Crime? Enormous social costs? Health costs?
Disease? Cultural erosion? Drugs? I don't think NAFTA had those things in mind.

most of us conservatives have big problems with the alleged "free trade" of NAFTA et al. it is totally one sided. It also leaves the border open to unlicensed drivers who may be smuggling in who knows what. most of all, we don't want to see undocuemted lawbreakers coming in...many of whom are violent criminals....also, the number of unemployed americans and the number of illegal immigrants working are almost equal in number. KEEP THE LAWBREAKERS OUT AND SECURE THE DAMN BORDER

Have you ever taken a business class? Did you drop out of school? Free trade and 'migration' are two separate issues that are NOT related. Do you have any idea how many countries the U.S. trades with? This is one of the hollowest arguments (comparisons) I've seen to date on Y/A.

If you haven't noticed that Rep's don't like any people of color. When it became clear in 2006 that there were more Mexican Americans then white voting population is when they started in on illegals.
