If illegals want to work in the USA then why don't they spend their money here instead of sending it to Mexico

it's not easy, even when you're married to a U.S. citizen, just ask my wife... it is time-consuming and expensive, and not an option for the poor.

I repeat, it is NOT AN OPTION for the poor. I would be unable to accomplish it without significant financial help from my father. Specifically, the rules state that you CAN'T be poor and sponsor an immigrant spouse... you have to be over 125% of the poverty line, and even that is subject to denial without explanation.

They would rather be with their families, and it is up to us to make it possible... either by giving them legal status and the ability to legally earn the money to go through the immigration process here, or by creating a job program there. All these "just get them the heII out" people should like that idea... it would actually be cheaper than deporting them all.

Family is most important to them, so they send the money to them. They have no obligation to help the US economy if they are not citizens. If they were to help anyone's economy it would be Mexico's.

Um, how about because they're living in poverty in Mexico? They don't come to the US to settle down, they're working for money to support their impoverished families. Plus, why bother spending money here for goods that are cheaper in Mexico?

Many families of illegal immigrants live in conditions that are 100x worse then anything we consider a slum in the United States. Considering that $1 = 10.81 Mexican Pesos, a little bit of money (to us) goes a long way in Mexico. Wouldn't you try to help out your family if they lived in atrocious poverty and your currency was worth 10x that of theirs?

I don't support illegal immigration but I can understand why illegal immigrants would send money back to their families in Mexico or Latin America. If I was in their situation, I would too.

And how are they supporting our economy if they're illegal and therefore, don't pay taxes to support any federal/state/local initiatives? Buying a soda at 7-11 for $1.50 is fine, but its not really fueling the US economy. The chunk of change that Uncle Sam is siphoning off of your check every two weeks is what keeps the economy afloat ... and that comes from wage earners who have SSNs and fill out W4s.

They do spend ALOT of the money here, because they also send alot of things to their families, like electronics, toys, clothes, shoes. If you have ever seen Mexican citizens leave the US by truck, you would see their pick-ups packed to the heavens with all of these things, it really is a sight to see!

Well in Mexico life is hopeless, the country is totally controlled by the elites and the drug lords. The people who come here are desperate for food to feed their families, jobs in Mexico pay only enough to get a loaf of bread for a whole days work. Many of them would rather stay with their families close to their homes but its just not working. if you get the chance go to Mexico and I don't mean the resort towns and see for yourself, you will be shocked to see a third world country on the door step of the USA.

To the chick that answered this question and talked about taxes...ILLEGAL PEOPLE have money taken out of their paychecks also. 30% of the people that graduated with me were illegal. However, they were very smart and a lot of them graduated with honors. Most of them had family that was still in Mexico. That's why money is sent back to Mexico. Most people that are here from Mexico, still have houses and stuff there that they want to keep. That's why money is sent back home. Not to support the drug lords and stuff like that. They have taxes on their land just like we do.

it is a fact that Mexicans spend 80 percent of their salary on America and send 20 percent or less back to their countries .

this includes rent , paying a car , buying food , buying clothes . many of them in fact buy clothes here and then send them to their families to Mexico .

Hispanics are very important for the economy and this is the reason why even banks do not mind their legal situation and offer them to open accounts for free .

they send money back to mexico to support their families.unlike many people nowadays many latino people have a strong sense of family ties.They feel obligated to take care of their own,wether its their children and wife or their elderly parents and grandparents.They don't like the traditional "american" way of just dragging them off to some nursing home and maybe visiting 3 times a year.And if you truly wish the money to stay in the U.S why don't you tell are your american friends not to go party down at acapulco and canccun and spend their money here.As I have been saying over and over again when are americans going to boycott mexico?Don't buy anything exported from there,Don't vacation there,Don't hide your mistresses and illegitemate kids down there.i'm still waiting on that to happen.

Because they don't want to have to make their life here in the US.

They want their life to be in Mexico, however it can't be unless you have money. So they come here, and send back money. However, with the situation it is hard to get back to Mexico and it is hard to give up the money they make because to us its nothing, but to them its riches.

Trust me, they only come here for the opportunity to work and that is all. They do NOT want to come here and make a life for themselves in the US.
