If someone came to your door on Christmas and asked if they could work for a bite to eat?

I would give them some easy quick job, to make them feel like theyve earned it. Give them some pride.

I have done this. I used to make them a sack with sandwich, chips etc. I have also had some who asked for any money I could spare, and used to oblige, until one day, I went out to check my mail, the day after helping someone and found the bag with the food still in it tossed in the ditch. I no longer do the money thing. Food only.

If they offered to work for it, I would give it to them. If they were hungry and just asked I would probably give it to them. If they looked like they were on drugs I would kick them to the curb unless they had children with them. Merry Christmas!

On Christmas, I'd probably just feed them.

On any other day I'd probably find something for them to help me with (I've got plenty of odd jobs I need help with) and pay them some and feed them.

Of course this depends on what I'm doing and their attitude but 90% of the time this is what I'd do.

There will be no one at my house on Christmas Day, because my husband and I will both be at a local homeless shelter preparing and serving lunch and dinner.

I would give them the food without having done any work. They could eat off the same dishes as my family and they could sit at the table with us. Two wrongs don't make a right. Any person with a heart, which many do not would feed the person and not think about where or what happened to them to get them in this position. God tests us with little acts like this all the time and it is our choice whether we make the right decision.

I would gladly share my Christmas dinner with any American. No illegal alien would come begging for food. They all receive too many food stamps.
So, my answer is "yes". I would share without having them work for it.

Anything you do for them will encourage them to come back for more. I would refer them to local services (homeless shelters and foodbanks in the region). If they were going door-to-door, there is a fairly high probability that they are looking for empty houses -- so I'd call the cops.

Giving them jobs around your house can be dangerous. It's too bad that people like Elizabeth Smart's parents had to find that out the hard way. (that's the 13y/o girl in Salt Lake City, UT that was abducted at knife point from her bedroom in the middle of the night by a homeless man that had done roofing jobs for her father)

Honestly if someone came to my door that I didn't know I wouldn't answer it. There are too many bad people who victimize good people especially during the holiday season.

A human is a human. I'm shure when I'm standing in front of god and he asks me "did I help my fellow brother" he's not gonna ask if he had papers or not.

I'm sick of this political c*ap....people know what right, and yet they decide to turn the backs on poor countries and worry more about there vacation homes or there next new car. Hope that makes you happy.

I wouldnt judge them in anyway,,it has to be very embarrasing to ask for food, I would feed them, and point them in the right direction for further help, shelter and somewhere to work. I think we should do to others as we wish to be treated as well, we are all human, no matter what color your skin, if your from a different country.

I would feed them. God said to feed the hungry, clothe the poor, visit the prisoners, and to do unto others as we would have done unto us. Humanitarian aid is not a crime.

I would feed them but I don't want anyone I don't know to work around my house. So I guess the first option that you gave. Merry Christmas to you and yours as well! If they couldn't ask for the food in English that I understood, it would be kick 'em to the curb! Sorry!

I was out doing a bit of x-mas shopping, and had a fella in a wheelchair ask me just exactly that question. "Do you have a job I could do for a couple of hours." Knowing I didn't have any work for him, I still chatted with him a bit. He happened to be a homeless vet, and I wasn't about to have him do a job for me because he had already done enough just by serving this country. I turned to put my great niece in her car seat, and buckled her in. And after doing so, I took money that I carry in my truck, returned to the vet, and gave it to him.

I personally have yet to turn down someone who is hungry, or in need of something or another. So if they showed up at the house on x-mas, I would feed them.

I guess it would depend a little on the initial meeting with the person. Maybe they look like an axe murderer, then to the curb. Maybe they seem like they really need help, Just give the food. Maybe they seem like they have/had alot of dignity and wouldn't take food without earning it a little, then I'd give a small amount of work and alot of goodies.

I would feed them... Perhaps I would ask them to shovel some of this snow that we have way too much of. Hungry is hungry. I care not what color you are, or, what language you speak. It is my job as a member of the human race to do everything in my ability to help others.

And, this happens at my house very often. My mother is convinced they somehow have my home "marked" at the curb or something. Whatever. They do some sort of outside work, and, I am happy to pay and feed them. No problem... "Marked" or not....
