well since the mexican government openly encourages illegal aliens to enter our country i would vote to shut down the border and sanction the hell out of mexico. why on earth do they strictly control their borders and immigrant numbers and fight us when we try to do the same.

The problem is that NAFTA would prohibit the closure of the border.

If nonetheless the border was closed, exports of subsidized US crops -- corn, sugar, cotton, tobacco -- would stop.

Mexican farmers, driven out of business by US crop subsidies (like African farmers, BTW) would start planting again, and would start hiring again.

So Mexican laborers wouldn't have to go North for work.

Ha ha ha.

(Actrually, as a trade economist I spend my life studying this subject. It ain't as simple as certain people would like to make you think. And GW Bush wants cheap labor anyway -- for agribusiness, for meatpacking, for his friends in industy. So long as he is in office the border will NEVER close.)

Closing the boarders wont help. They will keep coming until they take over this country. The government we have wont do a dam thing to stop them. Or send them back
