do you honestly think that they are working for 4 bucks an hour? here in cali. they are working for 20.00 an hour in construction. and american boys cant join the crew because they dont speak spanish.and they descriminate against any that try. get a clue. they are more set in there ways and much more bigoted than any american i know. they dont try to learn our language because they dont feel they need to. |

I love it when people who have no connection to agriculture make "announcements" like that. That is NOT what they are paid. I own a farm and I deal with farmers. You, sir, don't have any idea what you are talking about.
It all boils down to "you get what you pay for". When farmers use illegal labor, you have to worry about food health issues. Didn't you learn anything from all the health scares and deaths that were food related this year? I'd rather pay higher costs than worry if my spinach salad is going to kill me. Wouldn't you?
It's MUCH more cost effective to use harvesting equipment than illegal alien labor. (Loving my new lettuce harvester!) Senior citizens and retirees are great farm workers. I toured a coffee plantation in Hawai'i that uses nothing but retirees. It's extremely productive. I've started hiring them myself. They love the short hours, the extra income, the light exercise and the outdoor time. They are also extremely reliable and know how to follow instructions -- in English. |

Nope because I don't have to. I have a college degree and an executive job.
However there are Americans, teenagers and legal immigrants who aren't so blessed and who will work for a liveable wage.
So let the employers pay a liveable wage for low end jobs, and put those folks I mentioned back in the workforce. |

If illegal aliens are still here, they will get amnesty again. They will demand a higher wage that is fair; that being said, employers and companies will have to pay fair/higher wages.
It just opens doors for yet another illegal alien flood for companies to get that every present slave labor wage going again.
Cost and focus on the USA should be a priority. Many of those companies should be smart enough to compete in a fair market with legal citizens and or legal immigrants. If they fail to get a profit, they were not that smart to compete in the first place. |

The average annual wage of a "low wage", foreign born male migrant worker is $38 400. Native born migrant workers males make $47,500. Foreign born migrant workers make up only 14% of the US work force.
There are plenty of American citizens who would love to have those jobs. AND if their employers must raise the cost of their goods to pay their workers a bit more, that's Ok with me. At least the money they earn stays in this country. Right now $10 BILLION US dollars are sent to Mexican families by illegal migrant workers annually.
Why don't you get some facts before asking questions you obviously know nothing about? |

Fruit pickers - migrant workers (not illegal, they have visas). Dish washers - minimum wage workers. Anybody paying a dish washer less than the minimum wage is breaking the law even if the dish washer is legal. |

No one should have to work for that in America. We pay for that 'cheap labor' through taxpayer funded services to the poor which are then drained so that our own have insufficient access to the services created for our own. |

First let me say there are jobs that the Mexicans illegals or legal do that many American born don't have the experience or knowledge to do. They might be working for $4.00 per hour in some places, but that means they're making an effort at whatever to make a living, We have people born here in the states, that won't even do that, but will have their hand out for us to support them.
When alot of people address illegals everything they list or talk about is mainly directed toward the Mexicans, there are far more illegals that aren't Mexican and cause us greater problems by what they demand of our country and people.
You want to rid the country of all illegals, just by fines and jail to owners , CEOs and others that hire illegals would reduce the problem. fast and the lack of employment would soon be known. |

I live in these areas where I see first hand the need of the American farmers relying on Mexican labor. They do have a different pay scale as the rest of people working in America. Don't fool yourself. Our government realizes the needs of labor the illegals supply. They know the farmer relies on them for harvest. This just didn't start happening yesterday. If we didn't have these hard working people picking our fruit/vegetables do you realize how much you would pay for an apple? And for the people who think the majority of our produce comes from foreign countries, come visit my part of the US sometime! Proud Eastern WA gal!, USA |

I'm not a fan of illegal immigration, but I'm not a racist, either. We treat those people (and they are people) like they are garbage. I've been poor and desperate before. They are mostly poor and desperate, and trying to survive.
They are not over here taking our jobs. They are taking the jobs that the white trash among us refuses to do. We have plenty of our own able-bodied parasites that will sit on welfare rather than take a menial job. (Hey, folks, I worked my way through college partly by working cleanup at a slaughterhouse, so don't preach to me).
Yes, we need to stop illegal immigration. But we also need to recognize that these poor, desperate, and mostly law-abiding HUMAN BEINGS deserve their fair share of respect and compassion. I will respect anyone willing to work and will not respect anyone not willing to work. I'll take a hard working illegal immigrant if we can trade them for our Paris Hiltons...... |
