If you leave the country and become a listed citizen of the country you went to, are you still a US citizen?
Find answers to your legal question.

If you leave the country and become a listed citizen of the country you went to, are you still a US citizen?

Like the question asks, if you leave the country for a amount of time, and become a listed citizen of that country you went to, are you still a citizen of the US? Or do you have to go through the Immigration system again?
Additional Details
I'll go ahead and say why I ask this: I read that Obama became a citizen of Indonesia when he went to the Muslim school there, so I was wondering if, because he is a listed citizen of Indonesia, if he is a listed US citizen

Not automatically. They have to formally request to renounce their US citizenship. People can have dual citizenship with the US as one. See attached.

There are several condition where you could lose your American citizenship. One is to enlist in foreign military. The other is to accept a citizenship in another country. There are several more reasons.

It is rare that citizenship is revoked and this is not automatic, but it can happen as law allows it. If that happens, you will have to go through the immigration system as foreigner and obtain your citizenship. If you forfeited your citizenship in the past, it becomes much harder to regain it.

Depends on the laws of both countries. US don't encourage to have dual citizenship, because of certain problems, like loyalty to the country, etc, but you can do it. If the other country accepts dual citizenship, some countries make you resign to your citizenship.

Technically, it can cause problems, but it rarely if ever causes a problem!

Yes you are still a citizen. Once a citizen of the U.S., always a citizen of the U.S.

As long as you don't renounce US Citizenship, you are still US Citizen. Still have to file income tax as long as you are US Citizen.

It depends on a number of variables;
I have US & Irish citizenship. Both countries allow dual citizenship.
Germany has restrictions on dual citizenship.
Other countries allow you to have dual citizenship with only certain other countries.
And still others do not allow dual citizenship.

Most country's make you give up allegiance to any other country except the one which is granting you citizenship. You can only have dual citizenship by going through the process and red tape. Getting dual citizenship is rare.
