If you were President of Mexico, what would you do to reduce illegal immigration from Mexico to U.S.?

Their government doesn't have much insentive to stop it.

Illegals who immigrate to the US send moeny back to Mexico to support their families there, which helps to stimulate an already weak Mexican economy (if you think we are in trouble, look into Mexico's economic condition, they need all the help they can get).

The main incentive for Mexico (and the US) to stop illegals crossing the border was discussed in an article on the front page of the New York Times yesterday. It detailed how Mexican drug cartels crossing the border into the US to purchase military style weapons which they cannot purcahse in Mexico. This allows them to be better armed than the police in Mexico and has lead to many firefights with law inforcement in Mexico. One recently left 9 Federales dead from being outgunned.

It is a bad thing for the US as well because they are starting gang and drug wars in cities like Phoenix, Tucson and border towns in Texas.

The problem is that he doesn't want to enforce it. It is a corrupt Gov. and their second major income source is the money coming in from the illegals. They actually promote it by giving out brochures on the best routes to take. It is up to the U.S., to stop it, but we are too weak & politically correct to do anything. But Obama will pay for all their expenses, or should I say we will.

I woudn't do anything Illegals send millions of dollars to families in mexico that they spend in the Mexican economy. But if I did I would stop the crime create more jobs by making the country more capitalistic such as stopping government run gas companies.

Illegal immigration is not really Mexico's problem. If I were president, I would to my best to clean up the corruption that is endemic at all levels of government. The U.S. government had the same problem almost 140 years ago when Ulysses S. Grant was president of the U.S.--his entire cabinet was rotten to the core. Widespread tolerance of corruption at all levels of government is what's keeping Mexico's poor from getting ahead. What do they do? They're naturally gonna hop the fence to get away from all that. The Mexican government should also pay substantially higher wages to its civil servants and law enforcement to limit the need to supplement through blatant kleptocracy and/or drug dealing. If the corruption is out and the people are getting paid a living wage, there will be no need for Mexicans to cross over to green pastures if their own grass is green.

That said, Mexico should also do border inspections on their end. The U.S. mantains vigorous checks of anyone crossing through the border gates. Mexico should also do this at their borders---namely to stem the flow of illegal contraband guns coming from the U.S., which is contributing to the spiraling violence in Mexico, which could also boost illegal immigrants later, (or worse things). They check their borders vigorously on the Guatemalan side. It would serve them well to check the U.S. side too.

I would legalise drugs. That would pull the rug from under the feet of the armed drug gangs who finance this emigration.
Now if the US could play fair and stop exporting illegal military firearms to Mexico?

I would give the people a fighting chance to make a good life in their own country, and not push them to become criminals in another country by promoting good business that pays a good wage. Also I would build a police force that could squash the drug cartels, and could prevent others from taking their place.

If I were president of Mexico, why on earth would I want to stop people from leaving. After all, they can move north, get free services/cash for life from the US taxpayer and send some of it back home, not pay into the stupid Socialist Insecurity Program we have, and be thought of as a victim.

Many people are voting with their feet in Mexico. They are voting that governmental greed, socialism and corruption doesn't engender freedom.

Mexico needs major change to get straightened out, corruption is going to have to be cleaned up. probably the a big jail would need to be built and anyone taking or giving the mordita should be arrested and serve time, then the drug gangs are going to have to be dealt with and I wouldn't mess around with this, I would hunt them down and kill them. Mexico is missing a huge tourist trade with the USA by being a unsafe country to go to and the average Mexican is going to have to help and that means reporting any illegal activity they see or know of, it could be annonomous but it needs to be done. Mexico has alot of good people and they are going to have to fix it, if not the USA is going to have to invade because we can't have a terrorist drug cartels controlled country on our border.

I would impose 1 child per family law-as in China-Mexicans are breeding incredibly, like cucarachas, beyond their economy`s ability to sustain them....But that`s just silly question, in reality mexican president encourages his poorest, least educated, least employables to "emigrate" to U.S. for those billion$$$$ they send annually back to "Greaseland".

People have been moving around this planet for thousands of years in the search fo a better life...why should we try to stop it?

Culture is enriched by immigration. People should just get used to the idea. Besides, the US has been built on immigration. Unfortunately there are still a few backward people who want to look back instead of forward!

Brooklyn Guy, I don't care whether it's 'legal' or 'illegal'. People should be able to travel this freely, without let or hinderance. Borders are an abomination and narrow, petty capitalist nationalism is the cause of war, famine, disease, and poverty throughout our world!

Well, like us, they have more important issues to deal with like the economy and the drug cartels. If I were president there, I would do the same as our President, and that's put it on the back burner because it's not an issues as some try to make it out to be......it's just the media fluff!
