When an illegal immigrant comes to this country they buy fake papers including a fake social security number, so they can work. Often the fake #s that they buy are the SS# of a deceased American. In which case, if they attempted to file taxes the IRS would know immediately that the SS# is fake. So, yes, the employer withholds taxes and Social Security, but the illegal can't file for a rebate without getting caught and (hopefully) deported.

So if the IRS tracks SS#s seems to me it would be a simple matter for employers to check the legal status of their new hires. So it's not clear to me how the number of illegal immigrants grew into millions... We have laws to curb this. They just aren't being enforced.

It is not possible. Paying taxes doesn't exempt you from the law. It's a crime to be in this country illegally and it's a crime to work here illegally.

LOTS of criminals "pay taxes". It doesn't pardon your crimes.

Illegals purchase papers. They steal your social security number and identity theft is rampant. They can totally get you screwed up with the IRS. Most often they use a friends social security number or simply work for cash. Interesting but they can underbid legal companies that pay employer taxes and reasonable salaries. To have a legal job cannot happen without illegal papers or giving false information. You are supposed to have to sign documents when you are employed and they are to prove that you are a legal resident and, here in Texas, you have to have your information reported to child welfare authorities too. That's how Walmart and all those companies further north employ illegals and then claim they had no idea. . . and gee, nobody spoke any English. . .And you need to be by the border on the day to pick up checks from one welfare agency or another. Actually live in Mexico and cross to pick up our generosity and stupidity. And there is a way to check that social security numbers actually belong to the person that's using it, but no one bothers to check.

because there is no limit to the crimes that illegals will commit. he would have either had to steal or buy a social security number, another crime, and with this you can bet he is filing taxes. also many illegal invaders at tax time get itin numbers and file taxes. they usually are lower income and qualify for the earned income credit in which the get more taxes than what they pay in. do not let anyone tell you they pay into taxes and do not collect. more taxpayers money going into these criminals pockets, disgusting!

Most illegals work under the table and don't pay taxes. The few that do are using a stolen social security number. They are also able to to take out car loans,home loans etc. with stolen numbers and end up leaving innocent people in a great amount of debt.

illegal immigrants work under the table, in order to work you have to show proof of legal residency. employers must proove legal residency of all their employees. the worker was either lying or midlead because his employer isn't actually paying taxes on him

It can happen when some one steals your identification. Once that is done, you are extremely vulnerable to criminal assault, but so long as that person wants to remain in this country and do that job, they cannot claim their taxes because they would have to prove they are the person from whom they stole the identification.

It is really important for everyone to check their Social Security numbers because if that man wanted to run up a huge debt and go back to Mexico, you would be involved in a mess that would require years to clean up, and possibly never be cleaned up.

There is a social security office in your home town. Go to it, and make sure no one has stolen your I.D.

Finally, I want to point out that it is far less expensive to live in Mexico as long as you are not in the resort areas. Many Mexicans with jobs and illegally in this country, have every intention of going home. It is very dangerous for the person whos I.D. has been stolen, and it is criminal to allow the Federal Government to .. not.. enforce the law.

It is estimated that approximately 2 million illegal aliens work and pay taxes in the US. These people pay $9 billion dollars on taxes! That figures out to $4,500 per person who are making $12,000 a year! The tax rate on $12,000 is $899 per year! Somewhere the figures do not add up. Or maybe it's this new math.

He was not lying. They get fake SSN and get to work. Believe it or not those numbers actually work. So on every pay check, their employers deduct taxes, but during tax period the workers cannot file taxes because those SSN do not exist. Hence all the taxes that were deducted from their check go to the government. Billion of dollars in taxes are unclaimed every year like that... I wonder what the government does with all that...

Hold the phone here! You mean this guy had taxes taken out of his check and the government kept it and he took home what little was left??!! Welcome to America, Buddy! There hasn't been an immigrant in my family for generations and they have done the same thing to us! But if you can figure out how to get it back, let me know too! It sure is possible! and most illegal immigrants don't claim taxes becasue they are afraid of getting caught and deported. Illegal Immigrants pay BILLIONS......YES! BILLIONS in taxes every year, and all that stays in the Government's system. Those taxes help pay for Social Security checks and Medicare. With more baby boomers retiring, all that money is sure going to help.
