Immigrant college grads in legal limbo can't get jobs so what is the point of going to school when they remain?

Immigrant college grads in legal limbo can't get jobs so what is the point of going to school when at the end of the day they still remain illegal ?In December, 11 undocumented-immigrant students who had been given private grants graduated from Arizona State University, some with honors.

In May, nearly 40 more are expected to graduate, some with engineering degrees.

But in the middle of a recession and with immigration reform not a priority now in Congress, the future of these young people, many of whom were brought to the United States illegally as children, is bleaker than ever. Guillermo, 22, an undocumented immigrant from Cuernavaca, Mexico, is one of the 11 who graduated from ASU in December. His mother brought him here illegally when he was about 4. He asked to be identified only by his middle name out of fear of being deported.

"It stinks having this education and not being able to use it," said Guillermo, who earned a 3.44 grade point average and a bachelor's degree in business management. His maroon-colored diploma sits on top of the television in his Tempe apartment. While his fellow graduates are busy sending out resumes to corporations, Guillermo sells shoes at a retail store, a job he got using an invented Social Security number and fake green card.

Now would a person knowingly using an invented Social Security number and fake green card be a person of good moral standing ?

No, he is not of good moral standing.
He is welcome and encouraged to return to Cuernavaca, MX and use his degree there.
It is ridiculous to subsidize an education for these kids when they cannot work her legally.
Why did he, and the others, never attempt to become legal, or return to MX when they learned they were not supposed to be here. He has no one to blame but his parent and himself.
I am sick of these cry babies trying to gain sympathy when they know they are wrong. I hope he is caught and charged with the felony he is commiting.

Because if a person wants to study and have a career, they are allowed. That's what we need a REFORM. If we think with the logic that you explained, then nobody will go to study, including Americans. They will say, that they are not going to study because they will not find jobs. That is a very simplistic mentality, no goals at all.
If they wanted to have a career they will do it, hopefully things become better but as a person they accomplished their goals and nobody can take that away from them. Others will hate on that because they prefer to complain instead of looking to fulfill themselves.
Many people envy the hard working immigrants who wants to study and have careers, even if they are legal, because is bothering that someone that is a minority have a position with more respect specially if they have a better salary. Those people hate even their neighbors, families, etc. They are not satisfied with their lives but envy others.
And to give you an example, I am an American citizen, I born here, I am a professional, I pay my taxes, I have a good salary and other people envy me because of that. I really don't care, actually I like when I write a check or give them a nice credit card that has the MD at the end, specially when I give that to the ones that look at me with those eyes of curiosity when I am buying expensive stuff and they think I can't pay. That is funny.

In thi case, the sins of the father are indeed visited on the children. They are, of course, free to return to the land of their birth with the education and skills they acquired here.

The problem with "invented" numbers is that they quite possibly belong to a real person and can cause untold problems to the rightful number holder, even if the number is never used other than to work.

This was supposed to be fixed by the DREAM act sponsored by Edward Kennedy and John McCain several years ago. However, the fury over illegal immigrants caused toe bill to die on the floor of the house and it was never enacted.

Our society is supposed to not blame children for the sins of their parents but this is an exception. Here the children are punished for their parents law breaking.

Consider applying for immigration to Canada. With a degree you may be able to get into Canada in 2-3 years. At least the standard of living is as good as the USA there.

Please realize: Someone here illegally is not an illegal immigrant. They are illegal aliens.

There are 6,000,000 men, 4,000,000 women and 2,000,000 children illegal aliens in the U.S.A. They are part of the problem this country is in financial trouble costing $billions.

Go back to his native country and apply legally.

Wow, you can make a fake number up with that kind of grade point average. Not like anyone else illegal figured that one out. I think Sheriff Joe should sweep the shoe outlets, thoroughly now. It is awful that legal citizens have to wait and get a tuition hike and yet an illegal gets a great education and illegally makes up a fake social security number to boot. So much for learning morals and ethics in those courses offered.

What you mean is that illegal aliens are in legal limbo and can't get jobs. Legal seems to be the key word here as the Pros cry that it's a Federal issue about having illegals removed from the country. Ironically, it is also a Federal offense, and policy that even if illegals do graduate from college, it is still illegal for them to work in the U.S..

I disagree with Guillermo about having the education and not being able to use it. There is always Cuernavaca, Mexico for him to use his Free U.S. Education. Calderon has a loan program to help them start their own businesses when they return to their home country, or are deported back.

i think u make an excellent point , they should be allowed to work since they already have all they need to survive in America .

whats the point of educating them if at the end they will not be allowed to work .

plus as u mention they are excellent students .
