Water seeks its' own level, so do national poverty statistics. If, hypothetically, the United States and Mexico were to combine, 2 countries into one, the resulting population would have 110 million new people, for a total of 410 million, and the unemployment rate would jump to 1 in 4 almost overnight.
Then, we'd have to borrow about 4 trillion more dollars just to provide fresh drinking water for all concerned, and then another 4 trillion for the roads, and another 4 trillion for jails, hospitals, and schools, in other words it'd be a larger, more populous Argentina in no time, bankrupt, crime-ridden, and a soft and easy target for subversives and ne'er-do-wells. I'm not voting to annex Mexico, are you? And, if we're not going to annex Mexico, then it only makes sense to reinforce our mutual border with Mexico, a tangible barrier that'll help BOTH our countries re-discover their independence.

Its interesting you call Mexico a crap hole, since the Spanish came there and took it from the Aztecs, Mexico was one of the most beautiful places in the world. The European stole it from the Aztec's, they destroyed and trashed the place. The Aztec's were environmentalists and they preserved the land. They were an advance and peaceful civilization. Ever consider that the Europeans were the ones who turned it into a 'crap hole'?

If this country made it easier for illegals, instead of breaking the law and sneaking in, to gain residency and required they learn English and assimilate into the culture, the answer is, no.....

But if the govt. continues to allow the flood of illegals and does nothing but look the other way, then yes it will become more like Mexico.

Illegals are not the only ones responsible for the influx, employers and this govt. bare equal responsibility....

If a govt. doesn't enforce its laws, either change the law or enforce it. How do you expect people to obey laws when the govt. won't enforce them?

I am for legal immigrants. I think that America in general will be third world because of the corporations. So, yeah I believe that illegal aliens will create a division of rich and poor like other third world countries. I hope not, I love America.

I'm voting on the crap-hole like Mexico Scenario. I am not seeing a whole lot of value added by them being here, in fact if this were a business they would be counted as a major loss. I believe all illegals that are here and are holding a steady job and paying income tax should be treated with a higher status. If they are not working and are on any kind of assistance, we need to give them a bus ride back to whence they came. I want them to work to be Americans. English first.

first of all, mexico is not a craphole.
Also mexicans (wether Illegal or legal, or any immigrant), play an important role into american economy, they pay taxes (if legal), most importantly they are consumers, they spend money here, so the money remains in the society.
And most importantly, they have kind of jobs now, which most americans won't like to have, e.g: cleaning, landscaping, babysitting, these are just the few of other jobs they are doing now.
So i think they are contributing in building an better america, now I think governement should make all the illegal immigrants to make temp. permanent or do something, so that way they will also become the part of the society, and will contribute in paying taxes.

Mexicans are good for business. Most American businesses are stuck with lazy blue collar liberals. Now we can hire hard working Mexican guest workers that are happy to work long hours and make money for you.

I say fire all the smurfs and hire Mexicans.

Being a native Californian for 45 years, I can first hand tell you about the negative effects that the illegal Mexicans bring. Unlike most other immigrant cultures, they are reluctant to assimilate in to the American mainstream, preferring to convert the towns they invade in to their own version of Mexican towns. As a person with immediate Mexican heritage, I can also tell you that most Mexicans will settle for a blue collar lifestyle rather than push for a better education and what it can bring. Too many Mexican parents are still telling their young to 'just get a job' so they can help out, rather than go to college to make a better life for themselves. Look at most of the Asian cultures immigrating to the U.S. Rarely do you find them stuck in mediocre jobs or professions.

Craphole like Mexico. I don't have a problem with mexican's. Just the illegals! If it were up to me, I'd build a 20 foot fence along the border, top it with barbwire ans stakes, then bury landmines under it. Let see how many beaners get over here then!

Craphole for sure. I feel that wher need to stop the illegals from coming into our country. They cost the Americans our jobs. Govt. says that the Mexicans only take the jobds that Americans don't want. That's BS. Companies hire them because they will work cheaply. Also if a pregant mother has a child her the baby is a US citizen, and the birth is free for them. Not fair to us tax payors.What is wrong with the Pres. Bush? This USA not Mex.
Even all products sold here have both english and spanish wrtitten on them. Who do you think pays extra for that?

Although I'm not racist, it's unfortunate that I'd agree we'd just be bringing down America letting them in. They were not born here, raised here, and knowing Mexico, they'd only hear what people wanted the mto hear about America. I'm sure that there are rumors abound about what a great life and easy money America is. Given the oppurtunity, right now I'd switch this crummy life for one in Mexico.

Maybe we should go to the border in the middle of the night, knock them all out, and drag their bodies to the U.S.A / Canada border, and see how Canada deals with it.

I'm not sure they're illegal. According to us they're. However, if we read CAFTA OR NAFTA we may find ambiguous language which allowed these people here. This is a perfect law for employers to use to break the union leadership. If we read history we can see that Andrew Carnegie hired Pinkerton to prevent you and me from requesting equality. This happened in China in 1989. We need to realize who stands to gain from this. Also, if we look back a few years and read the arguments between Jimmy Hoffa and Robert Kennedy we will be able I believe to understand the "truth." Americans continue to ask for more money. Do we not realize our labor has gotten easier? We must consider that employers invest profits in new machinery. Imagine if the Chinese had the tools today to build the railroads in America. Before we price ourselves out of work we have to understand why this is happening. Remember France, Spain, England, the Roman Empire, Etc have all been were we are right now in America. If the city I live in which is now 96% hispanic, mostly illegal is a craphole now. The rest of the states will deal with the same.

When I was a public school teacher 10+ years ago, many school districts in Southern California were having real trouble with illegal immigrants. The increased enrollment was out of control, meaning the quick hiring of new teachers, and temporary classrooms with substandard electricity and air conditioning.

Schools have had to change their calendars to year-round schooling to avoid expensive re-building costs. And we haven't discussed the students themselves.

Immigrant students from Mexico and Central America are different than those from Asia and Europe. Although they are hard-working, many have never been to school, even though they may be in their teens. This is a disaster for a school, as older children have a harder time adjusting to school than 4-5 year olds. They also speak little to no English, and in many areas, have no motivation to learn English. That means more extra money for bilingual teachers and staff, and extra classes. That takes money away from the other kids.

Their families also don't understand the value of education in the US, guaranteeing that, apart from the occasional heartwarming story, a high percentage of the kids will drop out, work in low-level, low paying jobs.

In some areas, entire schools are now like this.

The only things I can think of is this country will have more low skilled workers, more Junior High School dropped out, more teen pregnancy, more gangs, more losers, more wife beaters, more welfare recipients, more uninsured, etc That will bring lower standard of livings as a whole nation.

Eventually, it will become crap hole.

It will definetely effect us. We are taking care of them when we cant even take care of the ones deserving of our help and our elderly. But we are expected to take care of all the immigrants that come over here illegally.

As far as them turning our entire country into a craphole, I really can't say... However, their drain on our already strained economy isn't helping much. IE: free education, free school lunches, free medical, welfare cash benefits, food stamps, subsidized housing, subsidized utility help, driving on public streets & highways in unregistered cars w/o insurance, etc.

What I have seen so far is that the areas of cities that they do manage to inhabit as a majority (meaning that area is primarily Mexican immigrant/illegals) the property values were drastically reduced due to building, streets, houses, etc being torn up & vandalized. IE: graffiti, garbage being thrown to the ground, light/utility poles being torn up, broken down cars left on the sides of streets, etc.

A lot of Mexico is like this, especially in the poorer neighborhoods. It's something that is tolerated & ignored there. They come here & I guess they assume that it must be okay here, too, since that is all they know.

There's a whole lot more to this whole illegal immigration issue that I can't/will not get into, but that's the gist of it on how their occupation in neighborhoods brings down the property values & esthetics.

Definitely a CRAP HOLE! Just look at the border states already! The illegals have drained the welfare sytems dry. The hospital and medical services are billions of dollars in debt, because of illegals using our hospitals to pop out all their damn kids they keep having!The crime rate has tripled.The driveby shootings and gang activity has increased. Illegals are a cancer on society, and need to be CUT OFF!

Let's look at the evidence so far.

Our hospitals cannot stay in business because illegals take free services. Our jails are overcrowded because a high percentage of illegals are criminals. Crime is up. Our drug problem is worse because illegals smuggle drugs. Diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatits and measles that had been eradicated in America are making a comeback courtesy of illegals. Social programs such as food stamps, unemployement and welfare are bloated with illegals, forcing up tax rates for the rest of us. The government has to waste money printing signs and documents in Spanish. Illegals displace Americans in colleges due to affirmative action quotas that admit them no matter what their grades and give them financial preferences that Americans don't get. Our government officials waste years of time arguing about illegals. Studies have shown that illegals do not pay sufficient taxes to cover the government services they use. And neither do their next generations. And so on.

Let's look on the plus side. Housing costs are maybe lower (no one has proven it), fruit and vegetable costs are maybe lower (no one has proven it), our houses are a little cleaner due to more domestic help (unproven), our wives can work a little more due to a plethora of nannies (a dubious benefit), and our lawns and yards are a little neater (maybe).

My conclusion is that illegal immigrants have been a disaster for America so far, and if allowed to continue will ruin the country. They should return to where they came from and enter America legally.

Well let's see... they don't possess the intellect to solve problems in they're own country and don't possess the intellect not to cause problems in our country... so I'd say they would turn America into a craphole just so they could feel more at home....

California is reporting that there is a 20% reduction in the available labor this year, due largely to the steps to stem illegal immigration. Many crops will go unharvested and the farmers are losing a lot of money.

I'm not pointing this out to defend illegal immigration but only to suggest that such workers are needed in parts of the country so an agreement should be made that works for both parties.
