In all seriousness, how high would a border fence need to be to be effective?

Watch the Penn & Teller episode on illegal immigration. They built a replica of the border fence and paid five Mexican guys to cross the fence. Some went through it, some went over it, some went under it, all in under five or ten minutes You could make the fence as tall as the sky and people will still be able to break through it.

It doesn't matter. A fence alone would never be 100% effective. You would have to find some way to stop the tunnels as well as many other ways they come across (ie. in the trunks of "coyotes")

The fence is pointless, and not necessariy. We can deal with the criminal immigrants far more effectively.

It isn't and it would never be effective. Increasing the border fence only give the smugglers more business, and now even through the sea.

See! before immigrants searching for work would take on the trek on their own, but with a fence, they resort to smugglers.

Revoke the business license of any company that hires illegals.
Illegals won't come here if they can't find work.

Don't give citizenship to a person just because they are born here.
The US is one of the few countries that does give citizenship to anyone born here.

A fence is a band aid on a compound fracture. It basically would accomplish nothing.

They would dig tunnels. They would use boats in the ocean or Gulf. They will still find a way.

If you really want to cut back illegal immigration, then take the incentive away. Fine any employer who is caught hiring illegals at least $100,000 for a first offense. Second offense they loose their business. Trust me, this would stop the majority of employers/people from hiring illegals. If there are no jobs, then most of them would leave.
