NY would have lower unemployment and fewer illegals on the government dole. There would be fewer uneducated and unskilled illegals. There would also be much less capital flowing out of the state and this country as illegals would not be shipping money abroad. That money would cycle through the economy over and over creating jobs and demand for goods and services. Not to mention the decrease in crime from illegal alien gangs and drunk driving. Overall the economic crisis is significantly more severe due to the negative economic impact of illegal immigration. Of note the states with the worst economies and budget deficits are also the ones with the highest degree of illegal immigration. It is because illegals lack the knowledge and skills to generate the income required to significantly contribute to an economy. They do not lack the ability to drain welfare and medicaid.

The problem is 'laws that protect the worker', not necessarily the illegal immigrant worker.

The alien worker does not have 'laws that protect the worker', so they are much more affordable. If those laws were not in place Americans could voluntarily take those jobs. However with these laws, no matter if the worker wants to or not, bypassing those regulations is illegal, and being an american getting employed puts the employer at greater risk than employing an illegal alien.

Understanding that minimum wage laws, and 'laws that protect workers' ultimately create unemployment, helps to show how illegal aliens help the economy.

*I oppose open borders. I oppose illegal immigration. But I also oppose the regulations on employers preventing them from hiring labor of the best value (lowest pay, highest quality productivity). Government is supposed to help, not destroy, and its over regulation destroy employment opportunities for americans.

These researchers always inflate the truth to justify something that is wrong. How would the FPI know...Did they pay tax on their income..NO they are illegal.The 22% is so inflated...not even the legal worker contributes that amount. Without Jose, Sancho and Gerardo the gardener, the state would probably do alright. The liberal problem is to believe that america has never had a time when it did not function or cannot function without illegal immigrants..that's a lie.The Tall buildings were not built by illegal immigrants, the stock brokers and Broadway actors are not illegal; get of the bandwagon. I spent the early seventies and late eighties in new york and watched the state and city thrive without the illegal immigrant. The schools were well maintained learning institutions..now they are cesspools of broken english, watered down education and drug trafficking...did the FPI research that.
