Canada in among the most wealth and developed countries in the world, not the wealthiest though.
Our health care system leaves much to be desired. Sure it's free, but that means you can wait rediculous amounts of time for any non-routine procedure. And then the people who decide to smoke three packs of cigarettes a day or lead otherwise terribly unhealthy lifestyles end up racking up a personal health care cost of a million dollars and everyone else has to foot the bill for it.
It's a big time pro vs. con type of system. With the quickly aging population we're really going to get to see the fun of it as health costs skyrocket. Either they'll have to scrap it or we can look forward to massive tax increases as the years pass by and the baby boomers all become senior citizens. |

Canada is now considered as the wealthiest country with the US being pinned down by the Iraq war. |

i am not canadian, but in defence of the people, i would like to say a couple of things. lets not start looking down our noses at the canadian people. they have a gov't that ALL are not happy with. and health care not all like. we have a gov't not all like, and just wait a few years, our health care keeps getting worse as time goes on. we're all on the slippery slope to hell. our only luck is, they started first. hang in there canucts, and don't give up the gun. aye. |

Oh yea, that's why all the Canadians have their money in US Banks, because their economy is so strong. What have you been smoken? |

Not necessarily, but I will give Canada credit for thier wonderful maternity laws... much better than the weak FMLA that only sort of protects some female workers in the U.S. |

Let me tell you something that not a lotta people know ...
Canada its the country that has most water in the world. As time goes by and population grows more in the world, water its gonna be a very appreciated liquid. Those countries that had kept their natural resources in the world eventually are gonna be the richest countries. when that happen canadas gonna be the wealthiest country in the world. |

If you like to wait 3 months for a Doctor's appointment. And they export more prescription drugs via the internet, than their own people have access to.By no means is canada the Richest, but they are a fine Country who does well. |

i don't know if it is the wealthiest.. but generally people enjoy an above average standard of living.
As for health care, they do have a good system but as with any system like that, that is free.. it is severely over used. not to mention Canada needs doctors and nurses badly,. |

Actually Luxembourg is the wealthiest country per capita. Canada was number 19. It is in the midst of a strong economic upswing, though. (And I know of very few, actually zero, Canadians who keep their money in US banks). The US has the most powerful economy but with regards to the great disparity in population Canada's placement in the top 10 strongest economies in the world is an impressive feat.
It doesn't neccessarily have the "best" health care system (it was ranked 30th by the World Health Organization) in the world but when you consider that the life expectancy for Canada is 79.5 and the same statistic for the US is 77.1 the universal health care system is adding almost 2.5 years to the average citizen's life. Canadian life expectancy is in the top 10 in the world, so despite red tape I would consider it a success. |

They definitely have a great health care system but I wouldn't say they are the wealthiest country. The US needs a system like theirs. That is don't join in wars, don't bother other countries, and make sure everyone is taken care of instead of pushing them to the ground like the US does. |

US is still the wealthiest county per capita, gdp, overall wealth however u wanna rank it US is still #1 now as far as canada's healthcare only good thing about it is their lackluster approach to the security of prescription drugs |

NO. And USA is not the wealthiest country too.
The richest country in the world is Luxumbourg. United Arab Emirates comes in 3rd and USA is only number 6.( this is based on GDP per capita. Canada is not even on the top ten.
Canada though has lower cost of medicine compared to USA |

Canada is not the wealthies country in the world. It DOES have one of the best health systems, however. Many think (incorrectly,) that the taxpayer foots the bill, but in reality the EHT (employers' health tax, paid by companies with more than 50 employees,) covers it. People also tend to say that there are long waits for medical procedures in Canada, but while I was there (18 years in the Niagara Region,) I didn't find that to be the case.
Now that I live in the US, I SURE miss Canadian health care! |

Eight years of Bush, it should be, but there may be an increase of illegal immigrants crossing your southern borders soon. |

You betcha, now just keep heading north. I promise you they will take you with open arms. You have just solved the immigration problem. Just point out other countries that have "free" stuff. |

Canada is by no means the richest country. They do have one of the best free health care systems. I am a American and I broke my leg while in Canada on a trip. I was brought to the hospital and without any need of insurance or other information they x-ray-ed my leg. Only after they gave me pain-killers did they ask for my information. When I said I was a American they did take note. For the x-rays it cost me $25. When I went back a local hospital took x-rays. Those cost me a total of $600.
Canada is in part a socialist county, almost like France in some way. They are not the wealthiest though. The exchange rate is 1.10 USD to 1 CDN. For their health care system they pay a little more in taxes but Canadian citizens get free health care which is absolutely amazing. The pharmacy system is very helpful and cheap even for foreigners. Cannabis is legal in Canada so for medical purposes it is also free. |

They are not even close to the wealthiest country.
They are pretty though.
How is this tax that pays for the health care not a tax?
Money does not magically appear - it is taken from the people of Canada to pay for the free health care. |

Well since Canada lives under the protection and in the shadow of our country, no. And the words "best" and "free health care" don't go together. Just ask Hillary. |
|

Stupid Marxist

The health care isn't "free", you pay enormous taxes for it.
And socialist medicine stinks, anyhow! |

Free healthcare? That's pretty funny. Think about it the next time you're paying your income tax, sales tax and VAT. |

Free Healthcare?
Where do you suppose the money for that free healthcare comes from?
Canada has many good attributes and a majority of Canadians demonstrated soem good sense in their recent elections, but a friend of mine who lives in Toronto travels to New York for her medical needs because she would otherwise have to wait 6 to 9 months to be seen by a doctor.
Nothing is free and the only people who advocate free anything are shiftless slackers. |

Please explain "free health care" is that where the morons pay for the idiots? |
|

scarlettt_ohara
 |
No it isn't the wealthiest and their health care isn't free; they pay very high taxes for it and often have long waiting periods fo certain treatments. |
