sience they live in a english speaking nation it would not be way to hard to learn if they wanted to!

It's all according to who the teacher is and how dedicated and patient they are.

English seems to be too difficult for American citizens to learn.

That is why you hear so many people saying "I axed (asked) my mother to take me to the store."

Some people catch new languages easily, and others do not. Realize that not all of the Europeans who came through Ellis Island learned English--their children did in school, though.

Who is the "we" you are talking about. If the Chines can learn English then so can everyone else in this country. Not only do Asians have a different language they have a different written script.

Why should they? We provide most things in their native language; welfare forms, bail bonds, etc, (go downtown LA and see), and otherwise translators are provided.They live in their communities where no English is spoken. Why learn what they don't need?

Yes it is! Do realize that you are getting the worst of Mexico. 69% of the illegal people from Mexico never even finished middleschool.
Very few people who finished middleschool go there illegally. Most Mexican highschool and college graduates don't leave Mexico, and the ones that do, don't do it illegally.
It is very unlikely people who couldn't even finish middleschool will learn a foreign language.

Is learning English hard? NO!!
Is it hard for people who didn't even finish middle school? YES!!

It a matter of wanting to learn, I,m fluent in three, and ready to start learning a forth, but I have a desire to be educated.

Actually English is said to be one of the most complex languages on Earth. I admire people who are able to learn it as a second language. Spanish on the other hand is quite simplistic, yet many of us struggle trying to learn it -not because we are intellectually challenged; it's just a matter of learning a foreign language. It's hard.

I don't believe illegals are the only ones who struggle with the English language.. can't count the times I have seen "boarders" instead of "borders".. and my personal favorite "herd" instead of "heard".

It depends on the level of academic education people have.
If they have prior education, it is easy to Learnn a second language. On the other hand, people with no prior academic education are very unlikely to learn a second language (of course there are exceptions).
Children under 12 can learn a second language easily.

Most of the illegals are from Mexico. Spanish is derived directly from Latin. A great many of English words are also derived from Latin. The Romans occupied England ( Brittania to them) for over four hundred years.Later the Normans, ( French speakers, also directly from Latin ) conquered and occupied England, and blended the languages together into what we have as English today.
English is not that difficult to learn for Spanish speakers, if they make an attempt.

It IS a difficult language, for sure, with many words coming from other languages, and many words being spelled different and different meanings but with the same sound ( There - their, where - wear, hair - hare , brake - break , sum - some, etc. ) it makes it difficult to learn. But, let's be fair and reasonable - only the poor and downtrodden cross the border to get jobs, not the rich or middle-class - so if American city slums were to empty and the people try to go to Canada to get jobs, do you think all Canadians would judge that all Americans are dirty, illiterate folk? Judging by the failures of inner-city schools in education, I'd say even slum-Americans have a tough time learning English, even born here. So give the Mexicans and other South and Central Americans a break on THIS one. Sheesh.

They have no trouble figuring out the difference between a $1 dollar bill and a twenty. Go into a Home Depot or a Lowe's and you'll see how we accommodate all Hispanics who could care less if they learn English. They post all signs in English and Spanish and by far they are not the only ones who do it. Understand, these people are not here to become a part of the United States, they are here to make the United States a part of Mexico (at least the border states). And Congress and the President are helping them.

Not for people that are dedicated ,but most of our illegals are from Mexico and are uneducated and in a lot of instances lazy,why should they learn it when we require folks here to learn spanish to communicate with them.
According to people that I have talked to from other countries that speak proper Spanish,they say they can hardly understand them as they speak gutter Spanish.
Seems they should learn their native tongue as well as ours.
