Is IMMIGRATION a benefit or detriment to a country?

It used to be a benefit, before the days of entitlement, now most have become a burdeon/detriment to us all.... starting with the flow of illegal alien invaders and anyone else who has migrated here for the "freebies".

Legal immigration is a benefit.

You can bring in a diversity of new people from all over the world.

You can ensure they can support themselves and not be a drain on society.

You can ensure they learn English.

Illegal immigration is a crime and not a benefit to anyone.

Instead of a diversity you get a ton of one thing.

Two thirds of illegals did not even finish high school, can only do manual or no-brainer work and still need welfare to make ends meet.

They never seem to learn English so we all are now burdened with having to learn Spanish.

it is a benefit as long as its legal. My family came from cuba and we have a rich culture that am very proud of. Immigrants bring culture(music,food, film), new ideas and can tranform a boring society into a really interesting one. The sad thing is some ignorant Americans look at all immigrants as being bad or illegal. But thats their problem cause they are missing out on all da fun.

It is a benefit if they are legal. To come here legally one must have skills that the U.S. could use in the work force. They are also free of drugs and diseases. The ones that come here illegally are not a benefit. They would never be accepted legally because they are uneducated, typically with negative habits, 5 plus kids they can't support etc.

Legal immigration CAN be a benefit. ILLEGAL immigration is not a benefit for U.S. citizens.

There's over 12 million illegals in this country. Need I say more ? They are talking jobs and housing from others.

Legal immigration is a benefit. It provides our country with more diversity and diversity is what makes The United States great. Now, if we are discussing illegal immigrants coming into the country and living that is not a benefit because they are living here without having to pay taxes, etc. They take American citizens jobs, etc. There is no record of them. They are criminals and that is not a benefit but if a guy brings his family here the legal way in hopes of a better live than that is not only a benefit for The United States but for his family and future generations.

I don't know every country, but immigration has benefited US quite a lot.

Many, a disproportionately large percentage, of immigrants coming into the country build up small business that sometimes turn into large businesses, increase employment, and contribute to the health of the nation. It seems, more so than the native US population, that new immigrants have a hard-work ethic and save, which aid the country.

I'm not saying that everyone is like this; just a statistically significant larger than normal percentage. And it makes sense; they risk a lot to emigrate, so they are more motivated to make it work.
