Is Norway a good country to migrate to?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is Norway a good country to migrate to?

I am planning to migrate to Norway with my husband. He has some relations there and it would be easy to get sponsored. Does anyone know the jobs in (high) demand and what the lifestyle of Norway is like. Is it a good country to migrate to? (Also we only speak English.)

Very good lifestyle 60% tax on income is wrong. For low to medium income, tax rate 25-35%. But remember, income is very high. Clean and nice country Most Norwegian are very good speak/write English.

Well as someone that has migrated to Norway I'd have to say yes.

The 60% tax is a myth, the top tax on income is less than 50% and that covers a lot of costs that you'd have elsewhere, health care, child care, education all the way through University, etc, etc. Unless you are very wealthy Norway is better for most sectors of it's population. The average income is also very high so your disposable income at the end is still reasonable. You never have to worry that getting sick is going to lose you your house and old age will be something to be enjoyed and not feared. You get Holiday by law (unlike the US).

The job market is suffering at the moment just like everywhere else, but in general Engineering and social care jobs have good demand. Not having Norwegian is a barrier in most workplaces so if you can learn before you move that's a plus.

The trouble you will have is finding grounds for a visa. even with family it will be difficult, and you will need to show that you won't be a burden on the state. Norwegian bureaucracy is complex and sometimes a complete pain in the bum, as without certain things you struggle with banks, doctors, etc. Basically it isn't easy. This is a long term commitment so I'd advise learning the language, seeing if the contracts with family can help find a job (Norway can be a bit "who you know"), and try visiting for a while to see if it's for you.

I guess it depends what you're looking for. Norway is a first world country, with good infrastructure, excellent medical, education and social security systems. It has beautiful scenery, is easily accessible to the rest of Europe, and for the most part- the people are friendly.

On the negative side- it's extremely expensive (especially for alcohol!), taxes are through the roof, in the north of the country it's dark for half the year, the weather's pretty crap, and it has some of the highest rates of alcoholism, depression and suicide in the world.

Your choice!

Norway is one of the best run countries in the world. engineering, petroleum and logging are big parts of the economy. although you pay 60% tax, in return you get second to none healthcare, unbelievable infrastructure and, once you've been in the country 10 years, great jobseekers benefit. the scenery is breathtaking and you have cheap flights to almost all of europe. although the weather isn't brilliant, even freezing in the north of the country, there are so much more advantages than disadvantages

I think so. Scandinavian countries have very good standard of living, the countries are also very clean compared to other European countries especially the UK. Norwegians in general speak very good English. I know that in Scandinavia usually they are taught English from a very young age. Bit like how in the UK they sometimes teach children French from younger ages.

Obviously though you should try to learn the language and learn at least the basics before you go but most there do speak good English. So if you have trouble learning the language you will still be fine.

Forget it. You pay 60% of your income in taxes. Which is okay I guess - if you like to go camping on your vacation. Don't plan on coming back here to visit for the holidays ............
