Yes, SI! Yes Yes!!!
hundreds of thousads of people are tired of a foreign language shoved down our throat daily.
My grandfather came to American from Greece, he did not expect everyone he met to learn Greek, he learned english and eventually became a succesful businessman. My wifes grandmoher spoke German at home , but when she started School, hte classes were in English only, and she was punished if she was caught speaking German to other kids. That was 60 years ago and it was wrong, but so is changing our countries language to spanish |

Yes, I am so tired of Spanish, i can't even get a job in my area because they're looking for bilingual people it gets me so frustrated. I just hope that they make English our official language. |

Hell yes, this is America and we speak English. I have said it time and time again. If they are going to invade our country and take all of the jobs from the middle class, not pay taxes and generally be a burden to us, the least that they could do is speak the language here. The ones that refuse to learn should not be able to get a job or anything else in this country. |

I am kind of tired of having to press 1 for instructions in English.
Latina Princess, it is true, you have the right to speak whatever language you wish. But you shouldn't expect the rest of us to understand you or to want to. |

well, there is the freedom of speech in america.i can speak Tagalog and when i do people who cant understand it think I'm rude. for many,English is their second language and they are not as comfortable speaking English as their native tongue.also, when you cant understand what someone is saying, people tend to think you are talking about them..there are many americans in the Philippines who can not speak our language and we do not get upset at them...they want to live with us but they dont want to learn our language.so,its not just here in america that we have this problem.
you just have to keep an open mind and try not to get upset,k? |

I think that an attempt to assimilate to the language of the country you reside in is at the very least is expected. I wouldn't move to spain and expect them to learn english to speak to me I'd be learning spanish in that case. Same goes for mexico or any other south american language. As a visitor I'd look for english speaking people, If I live there I will certainly make an effort to learn the language. |

No, I am happy that things are starting to be in Spanish too, it is not like they are getting rid of the English, they are just putting things in both languages. Plus it is helpful to the people that dont speak English. |

i am open minded and respect other cultures/languages/ethnicities completely (most of my family are immigrants from various countries in Europe and the Middle East). However, i feel that people that come here need to learn English. My dad came, as did my greatgrandparents, and they all learned English right away or before they came here. It can cause problems when people dont speak the language used by teh majority of the country. For instance, recently a boy in California died after falling out of a ferris wheel. As teh mother watched before and asked the ride operator for help, he could do nothing because he didnt understand English. I just read that last week and it shocked me that something like htat could happen. I also noticed this could cause a problem when i was with friends in the city and we asked for help from a bus driver. He began to tell us things but we couldnt understand him well becasue he didnt speak English. We soon realized he was telling us opposite of what we needed, and could have gotten us really lost in a big city. I respect immigrants but i feel that if they come to live and work here, they have to try to learn the language if they want to succeed and really help the country. |

JUST AS LONG AS I AM RESPECTED AND THE AMERICAN LANGUAGE IS SPOKEN TO ME.
THE PLUS SIDE IS, NO NEED FOR EXPENSIVE GETAWAYS TO ANOTHER COUNTRY. THEY ARE HERE AND SO ARE THERE FESTIVALS. SO ENJOY! |

Yes, I go to wal-mart here in EL Paso and everything is in Spanish, even the announcements over the speakers are in Spanish. It is like traveling to another country. |

We have to learn other languages to go to other countries, so why can't they give us that same respect? At least learn English if your gonna live here, speak whatever you want, but know our language too... We need to respect all cultures, it's a two-way street than most people don't know how the hell to cross! |
|

oye !!

does america really have a language?....its a collected bits and pieces **** of language.....its slang...its not worth...if this is the american english "This is America shouldn't people at least speak the language!??" ...then i think spanish is better.... |

I think a lot of americans 'feel your pain' on that one, Bush thinks it's ok, though, he's got lots of mexican friends, what's your problem? LOL
Frankly, we're about 3 years behind the power curve on the anti-illegal issue thing, 'si, se puede' was a sign that the illegals think they've got enough support to do whatever they want, and it's going to be up to the american public to DIS-prove that idea... |

I think America should be free for individuals to decide upon a language for themselves, but to help them decide, I think we should decide on one language that the country uses to communicate effectively and base our society on that language.Personally I dont think that language should be based on gender like spanish tends to be. I know it should be english. And if you want to work here or function here it would be in a persons best inte4rest to learn english. |

I believe that they should pass legislation to have English as the predominant language, in order to give harmony to our Nation.
A Nation so divided, cant stand up after awhile, and eventually will fail. If English is the "National" language, it gives everyone a reference, as it must be spoken.
I wish you well..
