English is our language and they should have to learn our language. If we moved to Mexico or Asia or the middle east we would have to learn their language to survive. So why shouldn't they respect us enough to learn ours.

If you want to move to Mexico, then you should learn Spanish. If you want to move to France, then you should learn French. If you want to move to the United States then you should learn English. It's the same way everywhere you go. That is the only fair way to handle it.

I don't think it harms immigration. When you become a citizen you are required to be able to read, write, and speak in English.

ALOT of countries allready have a National Language. America is simply falling in line. If you continue to make it easy for someone to Not learn a langauage Odds are they Never will Why should they if there's no need to. Making English the National language will Push Illegals to either stay home or at the very least learn English.

If they come to our country they should learn our language and our culture, if they don't want to they can go back to their own country.if we went to their country they would not convert to English or our way of living.

Every LEGAL immigrant has to have a knowledge of the English language, so it wouldn't be unfair to them. The illegal immigrants aren't citizens and are draining our wallets, so if they complain it is unfair, then too bad. Why should the rest of us have to learn the language of a bunch of criminals for their benefit? If they can't purchase groceries in English, they shouldn't have come to an English speaking country. We shouldn't have to do everything for them.

Of course English is the official language. We gained the land- even if amorally- and we developed the government that runs it. We choose the language.

Illegals are suppose to be hard workers yet none of them work hard to learn English which limits them to Spanish speaking people only

I don't think making English the official language will hurt or help immigration. If illegal immigrants come here with no English, they will learn it or they will not get by, that is if they make English the official language. I don't think making English the official language will in any way slow or stop immigration. The immigrants will either learn English or they won't make it!

Anyone going somewhere to be part of the society should become part of the society and not gripe at the society for not being able to interact with the person who just got there. So, yes English should bethe official language. US money is the official currency, people know we won't use their money when they get here, why do they think we're going to use their language?. Now, if you want to talk with others who may know your languauge, go right ahead, but to make sure you can communicate with everyone, learn the society's official language.

well seeing in canada english is the offical language, USA needs to do the same, they cant speak it, how can they so call understand it? that cause confict in our nation as well as in our jobs, homes, and education

It is fair to Americans. If they want to be fair to illegal immigrants, they should stay in their own country. Every other immigrant had to learn the language when they came to this country. People can speak what ever language they want in their own home. Why is it the Spanish want to make it different than any other people that have come to this country. This is not Mexico, it is America.
It seems the people from Mexico keep forgetting that.

I am Hispanic (pro-amnesty) and I agree that English be the official language in the U.S. The only thing I don't agree with is those laws that they already have in some towns where you can't speak Spanish or have signs in Spanish, that is just "linguiphobia." For those who just came and can't quite master the language yet, they should be allowed to HIRE their own translators. English should be the official language of the United States of America.

The very least that they should do since they are doing their best to destroy America and our way of life is to learn English. We shouldn't have to accommodate lazy criminal trespassers.

I think this is pure discrimination. It makes about as much sense as making all election ballots in languages that reflected the nationality of people in that area. In the Southwest, everything had to be in English and Spanish. In San Francisco, several Asian languages were required, etc. etc. If we did not want foreigners here, we should not have left the door open when we became a country.

Well I'm so sorry to say but English can not be the official language of the United States unless we kill all of our Native American Indians... Now it is true that English is the most common spoken language here in the United States. EFIL
