Is it fair that the US builds its economy on the backs of poor, underpaid illegals and treats them like dirt?

This poor man slaved away for 11 years for $5 an hour just so the federal government could snap it all up.

Chris
Yes it is. He should have not been able to get in here in the first place. His employer should be heavily fined. He should also be required to pay taxes on all the money he earned.

Aegis of Freedom
Could you at least TRY to use your brain? Nobody forces the illegals to come here, and nobody forces them to break the law to do it. If illegals have problems, they are a direct result of their own actions. The illegals have nobody to blame but themselves.

I'm sorry but I truly don't see it that way. This man lived and worked here, paid no taxes, and was going to take the money back to his country for his family. How does this help our country? There are people that are born here that are underpaid, and still have taxes taken out. There are starving children right here in our country. Why don't you feel sorry for our veterans who are homeless, who fought for our freedoms and then our government turned it's back on them. We need to clean up our own back yard before we start on our neighbors. Please go to a VA hospital, talk to a veteran, see how you can help their cause.

If the illegals don't LOVE it then they should get out of America pronto!

kittysoma27
The minimum wage in Texas was $5.15 a hour for the past 10 years. If he was making $5 an hour and not paying taxes, he was making more than some of our own people make so don't give me that underpaid bull crap!!!!! He is illegal and shouldn't of been here in the first place.

When you make bad choices like entering this country illegally and not bothering to at least learn some of the laws while here-
(abiding by them would be nice but too much to expect I know)
Bad things happen-
No shocker-
I really don't care how he feels about this country either- good riddance to bad rubbish

Matthew O
What's unfair is your distorted twist on the story. You purposely misrepresented the facts. Nobody "snapped up" his money - it was seized according to legal standards, and will be returned to him if he got the money legally. He admits he never paid taxes on any of the money, as well.

There is nothing in the story that has anything even remotely like "the US builds its economy on the backs of poor...." what a load of rubbish. "Treats them like dirt""? Utter nonsense - the man earned more money here in a few years than he could dream of earning in a lifetime in his home country.

I am uneasy about the current near-hysteria over money-laundering, though. That it is now a crime to carry your own cash without declaring it does bother me. But that has nothing to do with your bull-baiting question.

No... ILLEGAL is the key word

Lori K
These were ill-gotten gains. He shouldn't have been here. Personally, I think all illegals should be stripped of every penny and every possession when discovered. I don't think they should be allowed to profit at all by criminal acts. (And his only crime wasn't being illegal, tax evasion, identity theft and whatever else he did...he also broke federal customs laws...how many laws DO illegals think they are allowed to break?)

No sympathy. I'm actually extremely pleased that he was caught and I hope they make an example of him. It may dissuade others. My only outrage is that he is currently still in this country. He should have been dropped off over the border more than a year ago. THAT is ridiculous.

It is a fact that the illegal aliens are, well, ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!

1. CLOSE THE BORDERS!
2. ROUND UP THE KNOWN ILLEGAL ALIENS
3. STOP "SOCIAL" SERVICES FOR NON-CITIZENS
4. DEPORT ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS
5. CLOSE THE BORDERS

This problem can be stopped if these people would come here legally.

You are an ungrateful pipsqueak. You are using the USA by being illegal. Get your butt outta here or file the papers and pay the dues to stay.

mikea_va
US doesn't build its economy on illegals! Illegals HURT the US Economy!! If illegals want to live and work in the US, then they need to go through the NORMAL and LEGAL process like EVERY OTHER Immigrant did when they came here!!

Illegals are NOT the only hard workers in the US!!! That song is getting old!!!!!! Americans have been doing those jobs before we were invaded by illegals!!!!!

COME HERE LEGALLY OR STAY HOME.

the problems in guatamala are not our problem and we should not have to employ their citizens.
he chose to come here illegally.

my problem is (if you did the math) he made 226.92 per week. evidentally he paid no rent, bought no food, paid no utilities in all that time. i'm not buying that b s story for one minute!!!
personally i'd like to be able to save 59000 in 5 years making 5 dollars an hour... bet you would too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it that the illegals or their supporters always resort to this kind of "cry abuse/cry victim/cry racist" game when they are forced to look at the reality of how a civil and prosperous society works.

The illegals see the wealth and abundance of the U.S. and they decided that we have it because we were lucky. So they come here illegally thinking this is the place where anything goes. Then they start doing everything they were used to at home, many of them shamefully illegal, now they are faced with the consequences of breaking laws in a society built on a working justice system, boy are we the rich and powerful the bad bad people to blame for their ignorance.

It's our fault that they never want to learn English(unlike the also very poor earlier immigrants) and know something basic about the society, it's our fault that for majority of them, their aspiration of life usually doesn't go far beyond getting loud speakers on their trash cars and dressing up their girls with tight and skimpy outfit and high heels.

AND DON'T FORGET, THE RICHEST MAN LIVES IN MEXICO!! AND YOU DON'T SEE HIM GIVING FREE MEDICALS AND FREE EDUCATION AND FREE NURSING HOME CARE TO THE POOREST OF HIS FELLOW MEXICANS, DO YOU??

Well, I feel bad for this guy, because he was obviously working hard and living like a monk to save $5500 a year washing dishes. On the other hand, he really should have seen this coming, and must have been rather naive. He probably doesn't owe any back taxes on this, since his income was probably too low, but if he does, he should get his $59000 minus taxes, interest and penalties and be sent on his way.

Yes, it's fair. They aren't supposed to be here anyway. Too bad - if they don't like it - go home!

Nobody treated him like dirt, they enforced the laws on an illegal, tax evading liar. It's really that simple.

regerugged
Nothing you say is correct. Everyone in the US contributes to the economy, by working, buying and selling. The number of illegals is less than 5% of the population, and they don't earn much, so they cannot be contributing more than they are taking from the system.
Your main problem: reading CNN.

Nice try, now just what does the word "illegal" mean again? You don't like it, go else where. 80% of the US population wants the illegals out of here, that includes the poeple here LEGALLY. Hope that clears it up for you.

I'm sorry for the man, but he knows he was here illegally to begin with and he is lucky he isn't thrown in jail for breaking our laws. But wait! That would cause a riot and every liberal in the country would fight for his rights! The unfortunate truth is that too many natural born citizens aren't willing to take minimum wage jobs anymore. They think they are too good to do that kind of work. So, companies are then willing to offshore the work if they can, or hire illegal immigrants for a minimum wage without paying taxes. The job gets done, the company pays less taxes, the people get their goods and services, the illegal immigrant gets better money than he/she would have in his/her own country ... everyone is happy.

Until someone gets caught. Or until that illegal immigrant births or fathers a child who is born on US soil. Or until the Illegal Immigrant tries to get healthcare or welfare or a driver's license (are you listening NY?)

In order to prevent this from happening in the first place, we need to STOP illegal immigration. We need to control legal immigration. We need to start rebuilding our country so that we can support ourself without needing so many imported products and illegal workers.

NO

There is NOT a "slave" to flip the burgers - - - - there is a HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WHO WILL NOT WORK AT BURGER KING THREE YEARS FROM NOW!

Daniel F
The South was built on the back of black slave labor .Americans have always enjoyed the benefits of the lowly paid , until they priced themselves out of the work market
and American Employers stated moving their jobs overseas.
To day on BBC announced an Auto factory they were thinking of moving to the US was changed and the plant would be built in China. You think the auto workers strike had something to influence that decision.

San
That was a sad story I agree, but then again the US has been doing that for centuries even with the slave trade.
