Is it now racist for British people to have rights?

Is it now racist for British people to have rights?

I read in the paper that a minister has finally said what people are thinking "House Britons first", basically she said people who have lived here longest should get priority over newcomers and I was agreeing with all that I read, but at the end of the article it said that her comments were quickly condemned by campaigners for asylum seekers rights, so basically everyone who is coming into Britain has rights and the people who have fought (or their ancestors have) for decent conditions in this country have no rights any more. What do you think?

youre right. When id just left the Royal Marines and my wife fell pregnant we applied to the local council for a house as we were in a third floor flat with no lift. We were told that there were no places available, yet a new block of houses was built just around the corner with a sign posted reading 'enquirries welcome from the thnic minorities'. I was attacked on my way to work one morning by a gang of four blacks who decided to steal my wallet and stamp on my head shouting 'you f***ing white trash piece of s**t' yet it wasnt treated as a racist attack by the police. When I had to go on sick leave with combat related post traumatic stress disorder in 2004 I was told I wasnt eligibile for incapacity benefit despite having paid into the national insurance system for nearly 10 years, yet every immigrant who gets off the boat gets a house and benefits. It seems the indigenous British population have no rights

We British cannot even say boo to a goose anymore for fear of being called racist, etc etc etc....

I feel the indigenous population of the UK have had a pretty raw deal in the name of political correctness for a considerable amount of time. Furthermore, we all know that social housing is at a premium and access to such housing is very difficult. Surely, it makes common sense that such housing is given to UK nationals first. For a very longtime, British nationals have felt second class, second rate citizens. I feel what was said was appropriate and I applaud this assertiveness in challenging the mad way in which housing and indeed other social issues are dealt with in the UK. It about time that we are treated fairly. I know many people will say that this is racist but its about equality and not race. Let's give our people a chance too as charity begins at home.

Well, said Alberto
I think she has been misrepresented a little; she stressed that people of all creeds & colours whose ancestors were British should get priority, so she wasn't being racist.

I think it needed saying but it will sadly probably kill her career.

Hi Fairy
You are right!
Did you see that you can be fired for being;
"Too white or too British"?

chrissie
I haven't read this article so I can't comment. I think that the UK is in a state and is full of hangers-on whether it be British born or emigrants. Eventually the system will collapse. I've left the UK and will never go back. It's a shame because I'll always love my country but I can't bear to watch her demise.

To be honest, i think its great to hear a politician speak up for us, and the so called supporters of the asylum seekers should shut up for once and listen to what the nation wants, we should come first, its our country and as you say our people have fought and died to give us the freedom, otherwise we would have been under the dictatorship of Hitler, then we would not have the problems we have today. So i say "respect what those brave people did for us, and give us what they fought for" Freedom"

Correct, this is all to do with "Political Correctness" my mother was desperate for somewhere to live after marrying a good for nothing her only option was to move 50 miles away and given a bedsit (she had worked all her life) whilst you have people coming to the country and being given new homes with benefits the government bend over backwards for them so that they do not complain about us being racist, shame it is now the Britain's that are the minority of this country.

Us Brits have been second class citizens in our own country for years now, how do you think we can change it?

Davehammers
our rights have been violated we live in a society where immigrants have rights to housing over our granparents who for most of us did the greatest service any country could ever ask for they fought and died for our freedom we owe them most of europe owes them i live in east london in a one bed flat with my wife and three kid we were told by our council that we have to wait over 11 years to be housed we all know what and who thats down to when immigrants come in and get it all handed on a plate i dont make any appologies for what i say we dont have rights we have been striped of what makes us proud can anyone remember our last st georges day celebration in the streets.... no i cant either trafalgar sq did one pittiful one this year but our mayor would rather celebrate other national days as it keeps them happy and gets him votes we need a political party to stand up and say we have had enough im up for it who is with me........

yes it's only racist if you are white

bringmesunshine is back!!!
The best solution would be for New Labour to get off their fat buttocks and to start building some more social housing.
They won't do it because they are more besotted with getting people to own houses (leading to more debt), and they don't have the money thanks to their exploits in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Housing should be for everyone, regardless of your background.

sod asylum seekers keep britain for the british

I am an American. The same thing is happening here. 12 million (and that is conservative) illegal aliens have been allowed to flout the law, and now are going to be expedited to citizenship.
Our Social Security system, already strained, will collapse. That is sought too: the bankers want to privatize it, the people won't allow it - so collapse it and "fix" it!! There is a plan to break the back of labor all over the world, and make us fight for crums, like in South America's favelas. The locomotive is rolling full steam, and dam* the public!
It is going back to wealthy property owners being citizens, and the rest are fed shyte!!

johnnyhawkyns
I call it slave mentality that people expect to have the govt. house them or feed their children. Stay at home with mommy and daddy until you can pay your own way. Don't have those kids until you can feed them yourself.
If this happened then you will have no foreigner taking what is yours.
I have never been ill or out of work,I have always owned my own house. Yet, all my life I have paid high taxes to support those that won't work or people that have kids they can't afford.
Now in two years time I go on pension and I will get £80 per week. This is less than some benefite cheats get that have never worked.

I also think that British people should get priority treatment for social housing.

To take that out of context and turn it into a race issue (which it shouldn't be as there are plenty of non-white Britons) cheapens the whole debate and makes it difficult to make real progress.

I have nothing against asylum seekers - let's not forget, there are people who genuinely need sanctuary from whom/what they are fleeing. There needs to be adequate provision made for them, but not at the expense of people who need the Government's help just as much, if not more.

We should also remember that this situation is the fault of the Government, not by those who come here and exploit it. Lashing out at them is unproductive, to put it mildly.

If you live in the areas where the asylum seekers/illegals are - you will soon see the answer - we have indeed become second class citizens - but that will change when Labour get booted out.

My comments are not based on tabloid trash - nor on the housing issue, they are based on a whole variety of pointers: crime, behaviour, and the wooly liberal policies that have allowed some areas to become segregated for fear of appearing anything other than neutral.

I think you read the Sun, one of the most biased newspapers around.
Yes maybe you should house British people first, rather than some immigrants.
But asylum seekers?
Britain is land, just like everywhere else. A teenage girl is pregnant has a row with her parents, you think she should get the house?
A story i heard a few months ago (yes..a real one!)
A family with three daughters, very young. The husband was a member of the opposition government. Soldiers came and threw the two year old over the balcony. She survived but will always be handicapped.
These "asylum seekers" nearly always have absolutely no where to go, they don't want to be here.
Most of them are actually teachers, accountants. A lot of them had a lot of status in their country and when they flee to Britain they have nothing, barely any clothes.
We are a pretty rich nation, we don't have raging civil war and we are not in fear for our lives like they are.
"so basically everyone who is coming into Britain has rights"
Have you researched this? Or is this just your opinion after reading the sun!?
No they don't have lots of rights etc, but asylum seekers, should get priority over many British people as they are in an awful situation, one which most British people are totally ignorant.
I'm guessing you're one of them, and are frequently heard saying "it's the bloody immigrants, stealing our jobs"

I think a fairer system would be to look at who has most need for a new house.

An asylum seeker should not have a right to a house because they are asylum seekers, and white, British people should not have a right to a house because they are white and British.

If a place becomes available, look at the people on the list and decide who is in the most need based on their current living conditions, disabilities, age etc.

That's ridiculous. Just because you give some benefits to asylum seekers does NOT mean you are taking away ALL of the rights of the rest of the population. You made a huge leap there, honey. Also, BY THE WAY, most countries are signatories to the inernational treaty that BINDS them BY LAW -- US and Britain included -- to help asylum seekers.

Do you know what asylum seekers are? Here's an example:
Person from African country was involved in helping family member run for president. Family member did not win. The newly elected president vowed to take revenge on all of those who were against him during the elections. Later, the person, some family member and a couple of others were traveling to an family gathering in a remote town. On their trip, they were stopped and detained at a military check point. They were berated and beated and told they had a meeting with the president. The person escaped and later found out in the news reports that the charred decapitated remains of the others had been found. The person spoke out to the press in their country from hiding and then fled to the US. If that person had had to return to their home country, they would have, without a doubt, shared the same fate as their family member. Do you really think this person should not have been granted assistance here in the US? God help you if you are ever in need!

This is a true story, and this person was granted political asylum.

Mr Sceptic
Why is it that you pathetic lot cannot see any assistance given to those from overseas, without immediately thinking that you are being deprived of something yourselves?

Why does a reasonable statement about considerations of priorities in housing enrage all sides? Surely housing assistance should be given to people on the basis of need and contribution to this country. Would you give priority in housing to a family of British dole scroungers over key medical workers from overseas? That's the problem with a British First policy, and it's only one step from there to a Whites First BNP type policy.

Why, just because being British doesn't push you straight to the front of the queue do you feel justified in making a statement like "we have no rights any more"? You know it's nonsense, and perhaps you should find out what rights immigrants have before sounding off.

Nobody ever treats me as a second class citizen in UK, despite me having been born here and lived here all my life.

I usually find that when someone complains of being treated as a second class citizen, it's nothing to do with their race, but everything to do with their individual qualities.

No, but understand that u can not be like that, giving preference to people who has more years living or not, it doesn't really matter...democracy has a part called "we're all equal" if u start being like that, and taking rights away your gonna make people angry who has worked the same or even more than people who has been borned at england...

i think that it's StUpid :)
people don't choose where they are borned, they move to get better economical chances...if u were the one tryng to make a better life u wouldn't see it the way u do...
