YES, but only legally.
Under the constitution of the USA it is illegal for an government entity, such as police or states etc, or any business that engages in interstate commerce etc, to be racist.
Individual Americans are free to be as racist as they please against any race or nationality or religion or whatever, so long as they do not use instruments of interstate commerce to do it, such as telephones, newspapers etc. if you put a sign in your window that says "room for rent, no mexicans" it is legal.
Just do not try to put an ad in the paper. IF you are sharing your home with a tenant, you may advertize legally because sharing a home is part of your castle and it is still respected. but most newspapers will not run the ad on policy as they may get in trouble, not you. that is why you sometimes see rooms to rent ads that specify female only or male only. most papers allow you to discrimnate on gender only in such ads.
so feel free as an American to be as racist as you want and be prepared to acept the social consequences but no legal consequences.
legally you may not be racist in employment. this is a concession that was made by legislation some years ago. If you are an employer, you are considered to be engaged in interstate commerce. they make exceptions for religious groups that hire workers, as this is a conflict between church and state. so some churchs may discriminate in ways individuals cannot. So presbyterian church may insist that the person they hire is their faith and this may impact mexicans disproportionately as most are Catholic.
Morally this is a question that is answered differently by different people and so it should be in a free country. |

Standing up and demanding that our laws be upheld and enforced DOES NOT make one a racist. If an illegal is from Mexico, England, or wherever, they are breaking the law to be here and are criminals and should be deported.

Girl are you crazy? Just because Americans say we can't let every Mexican who wants to come over come over doesn't mean we HATE MEXICANS (some people do - but not all). The fact of the matter is I don't blame Mexicans (or anyone else) from wanting to come to America-but NO COUNTRY can take on all the people from every 3rd world country. Perhaps if America would demand better of Mexico's government (like it does with Cuba, Haiti, Chili, Iran, France, the Bahamas, etc.) perhaps there wouldn't be a NEED for them to come to the USA. I live in the Bahamas and we have a HUGE Haitian problem that WON'T be solved until the problem with Haiti is solved. Hating Mexicans is no kind of answer. Understanding and coming up with real solutions to the reasons people risk their lives to live illegally in other countries is. |
