Is it possible for an illegal immigrant to say that they are from Cuba?

I don't think anyone is understanding what I'm talking about I'm talking about people like Elian Gonzalez who came from Cuba and the debate of giving him citizenship or sending him back to Cuba because of his position. I heard earlier this year a family from Cuba recently coming to the US and given instant citizenship so why couldn't someone from anyother Spanish speaking country try to pull it off too. I don't think it could be that difficult.

Won't work. Cubans don't speak the same dialect of Spanish as Mexicans. The colloquialisms -- slang and such -- are different. They'd be exposed on the initial interview.

It would be like a Brit claiming to be an American in Canada. Same language but sounds way different to anyone who understands it.

For an intelligent Mexican sure. But, the school system in Mexico is not up to par with America and that's not saying a lot. You would really have to be bright to immitate the idiosyncracies of a Cuban if you are Mexican. You'd have an easier time if you were Puerto Rican as they are much closer to Cubans in their heritage.

An illegal immigrant can say they are from wherever the hell they want to be from, if they are here with no passport, permanent resident alien card, or proper visa, they are still an illegal immigrant.

That's a really good question. I suppose in order to do a proper background check for these illegals, they would have to know the proper country of origin.

I suspect they will be asked a few questions before anyone gives them documents. Someone who has never been to Cuba might have a hard time answering them.

a Cuban citizen who enters the USA is not granted automatic USA citizenship, they have to wait a whole year and then they are awarded the status of legal residents, then they can apply for USA citizenship
