Stay three billion miles away from both North Carolina and Wisconsin if you're of African descent. Connecticut is also quite racially polarized. That leaves New Jersey. Since New Jersey is divided from the greatest state, New York, by only a river, I'd recommend that you choose New Jersey. However, once you move to New Jersey, make plans to move over to New York as fast as you can. New York's where you eventually want to end up. Trust me, I've lived all over the U.S. and know exactly what I'm talking about with this.

North Carolina and Wisconsin have the cheapest cost of living of those 4 states. NJ has VERY high taxes and VERY high housing costs. I hear Connecticut is the same. Also the car insurance in NJ is one of the most expensive in the nation. Monmouth county is very expensive. Ocean county and the southern counties are cheaper. Go to these sites for more information:

Why in God's name would you want to move to America? We're going downhill and fast! Stay in Canada!

But to answer your question about the states... What's your personal preference? Go online and look up the cities of each of those states. You should be able to get an idea of what each city would be like and if it is a place you would like to live.

I'm not sure about all the paperwork and things like that, but I would say with 90% certainty that you could move to America. Also, my opinion would be in favor of North Carolina and Wisconsin. I've lived in both states, and liked it equally.

I am sure it is possible. You probably should contact a US Consulate in your area to find out any details so that you would be able to work when you arrive. Of the states you list, Wisconsin and North Carolina would be my preferences. I lived in NC for 12 years and would still if it weren't for having to return to the Chicago area because of the need for family assistance with a disability.

Yes, it's possible, but it might take a lot of time and money. There isn't any "best" state to live in, just states (and even areas within states) that are better for you according to your job, lifestyle, needs and wants.

I've known a lot of people to move to North Carolina for all sorts of reasons (school, work, to follow a girl) but they've all loved it. I've always wondered what's so great about it, but since I've never been, I just don't know. That's where I would go, out of those choices.

As for can you move... I work for an immigration law firm (but I'm the bookkeeper, so it's not like I'm an expert). There are two main ways of moving to America, employer-based and family-based. I don't know if employer-based would work for you as a social worker. Typically it's for nursing or very specialized work that they can't get someone here to do (they have to prove that the employer advertised, and that the people who applied aren't qualified.) For family-based, you would need family here to petition you. There are also student visas, if you want to go back to school.

Talk to an attorney who specializes who can tell you your options. Reeves & Associates (offices in Pasadena, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Manila) has clients all over the world, including Canada. Their consultations are $100 (which will be credited if you retain them) and can be done by phone.

I wouldn't advise NJ,MA,CT, or NY -- those are some of the most expensive places in the USA. Coastal NC or SC is very beautiful and affordable.

Well Wisconsin being the most northern of the states listed (on Lake Superior) and being relatively rural, would probably be closer to climate etc., Connecticut is a small urban/sub urban type state, New Jersey is fair, and North Carolina is considered a southern state. I have gone from north to south here and climate adjusts accordingly.

well north carolina is nice, but virginia is better!! there is tons of stuff to do and there are nice mountains and lots of camping... but new jersey is a mess.
