Is it possible for someone to become an US citizen, while living in Canada?

I have a friend who bluffs a lot and he was saying that today he became a US citizen. He is an immigrant who became Canadian citizen a few years ago, but is it possible for someone to become an US citizen while living in canada and studying in canada?

It doesn't make any sense to me. Is he lying or showing off or telling the truth?

apparently they applied years back and they visit US twice a year.

Something is not right here. Because to become US citizen one must have a Green Card, and to have a green card one must prove his/her legal presence in USA for number of years & one condition is showing TAX papers or other activities proving the stay in USA.

So his statement sounds dodgy. But if he had his green card already, then it may be possible to claim US citizenship even when he was living in Canada, since he was going to USA twice a year to validate his Green Card.

I personally wont believe him, unless I see his US Passport to prove he is US citizen.

his living in Canada and visiting the US twice a year means that they do NOT meet the residency requirements. When I catch them, I will remove their LPR status.

I think that depends on his Official, Home Address... You have to be actually living in a Country for a certain # of years- before you can claim citizenship there...

It might be possible for your friend to become a US citizen under the Child Citizenship Act. Lawful Permanent Residents do not lose their residency if they are going to school outside the US. If he meets all the other conditions and his parents just completed their naturalization process, he may very well have become a US citizen too.

It is not possible to citizenship approved, if he hadn't lived in US minium of 30 months for the past 5 years in US.

Ask him if he went to interview and took civic exam for the citizenship.

He might have confused with the approval of I-130 Petition for Alien Relative or the approval of I-485 Green card.

Not unless he is from the US. I was born in the US but now i live in Canada and I have dual citizenship which is pretty sweet. But no there is very little possibility that your friend has an American citizenship as well as a Canadain as well as where ever he used to live. But if he came from the states than yes it is.

Your friend can become a US citizen while living in another country, even canada, as long as they finish the citizenship process in the US.

If this person lived in canada be careful, he very well might try to steal your stuff because those candians think everything belong to everyone, their a bunch of commie scum that should be throw over Niagara Falls, if they live then their okay.
