Is it right for us to learn Spanish to accomodate immigrants?

I don't believe that anyone has asked us to learn Spanish or any other language. On the other hand, any increase in education & skill would probably serve you well in life.

The answer to this question should be obvious, but you know there are people out there that would say we should. There are plenty of good reason's to learn a second language, but this would Not be one of them.

Keyword is: assimilation ... if people want to come here, it's a matter of common sense and common courtesy to learn and speak the language of the host nation .. people who don't want to assimilate, become Americans, really have no right to be here in the first place ... I mean, why are they here at all if they can't be bothered even trying?

You can learn Spanish if you want to. I took German, myself, because that is where my family originated from, long ago. A person's second language is their own choice.

However, I feel that everyone who wants to live in the United States should make an effort to be fluent in English. They knew where they were moving to when they came here, and many of them weren't even invited. More than 100 languages are spoken here, and if they can't even learn the language of the country they immigrated to, I don't see how they can expect us to learn all 100 languages.

Also, the lack of English fluency in school aged children is ruining the public schools in border states.

The Spanish or any other foreign national should be REQUIRED to speak English. This is no different then if you were to go to a foreign country and live you should be REQUIRED to speak that language.
