Is it time for an large scale American boycott?

WOW, am I with you. I think you make a very valid point (despite what some other answerers say).

To the person that called you (i think it was) arrogant for saying you are "tired of being served by"....this person must be one of the uneducated people. If I go to a restaurant, I am being served by the host/hostess that seats me, the waiter that takes the order, the cook/chef that cooks the meal, and the cashier that takes the money I pay for it. If I go to the supermarket, I am SERVED by the person in the deli department that slices the roast beef, I am SERVED by the stock person that loaded the products on the shelves, I am being SERVED by the cashier that rings up my purchases, I am being SERVED by the person that bags the groceries, and if needed I go to the counter at the front of the store that is labeled, (you guessed it) customer SERVICE!!!!

Many other people from many cultures have come to this country for myriad reasons. Chinese, Polish, Irish, French, German, Vietnamese, people from ALL over the world. Many have made a wonderful life for themselves. BUT they all learned how to assimilate. It is possible to become PART of America and still keep your own culture alive. If these hispanic people would try to be a little more "american", then maybe others would be more open to their culture.

I'm not sure how we could avoid supporting these businesses for an extended amount of time. I agree with you, but the way business is screwed up right now, it would be hard to straighten it out.

I think it'd send a message, for sure, but the big message you need to send is in November by voting for people to put in office who are listening to the public, not some special interest lobbyists whose interests run counter to those of the american public on the illegal immigration issue. This is Big Business VS. The People Of The United States, clear as day. If they wanna hire cheap mexican labor, by all means let them cart themselves down to Old Mexico and open up their factories etc. there. Other bona-fide US businesses will open to take their place, and eventually when they fold up, they'll be bought out by someone in Asia.

We need americans working in american businesses. It's sure nice and noble to help other countries, but it's a heck of a lot smarter to do it in a more controlled way. We could help Mexico by training some of their people to actually start carrying out their own improvements and whatever reforms they need to start having the mexican economy and infrastructure actually support its' own citizens.

I think we need the border fence so that it'll encourage their own home-grown developments and close off the 'easy out' that the US has been for Mexico for so many decades.

Support the US Border Patrol!

walmart owned by the Walton's are worth more then Bill Gates and support the no need for good American life I myself do not go shopping at walmart or any store supported by the Walton family they are the Devils Advocate (cheep prices for your soul) and I agree with the fact of that where you work learn the language if it's in France then learn French to show respect

What choice is there? Americans often have their goods made overseas in poor countries instead of having the jobs in America. Poor people need to work, too. If they don't have the money to go to college, then they will have to take lower paying jobs, often in the service industry.

Boycott all you want. See if it makes any difference.

Well when my grandparents came here( legally!!!) the first thing they did was tell the kids "this is your country now so you have to learn English" and they did they also learned Italian but English was their primary language.I know people who have lived in this country for 30 years and I can only understand every second or third word, (what the hell is that!!!). And we need to buy American even if it costs a little more because you are getting a much better and more durable product,plain and simple,there's no savings if something falls apart in a few months rather than a few years.

What really needs to happen is put people who hire illegals in jail for 1 month for the 1st offense with a stiff fine and have it go up from there.

Well considering that 300 million real "Americans" (people who live in the Americas) speak English and 300 million speak Spanish, don't you think its time to get off yer lazy butt and maybe try to learn the language?

I mean most Europeans speak 3-4 even 5+ languages of the cultures that surround them, you'd think that just learning ONE wouldn't be that big a burden. But listening to all you racist gringos, whining and bellyaching, it would seem that it is.........

Americans won't boycott the service industry, especially food services. The reason? have you seen the obesity statistics?
Seriously, I don't think you have the motivation that Hispanics have. To us it's a life and death issue, yet to most of you it is one of many issues.

it must be difficult to be so perfect in such an imperfect world!

of course i've dealt with bad customer service before. i just don't attribute it to the country of origin of the person, their native language or their level of education. i accept that i'm a responsible actor in the transaction as well. if i don't understand the person who's helping me i say "excuse me" and even speak to them in spanish if i think it will help (i took the time to learn spanish because i thought it would be useful in our changing world).

bad customer service is usually the result of the person having a bad attitude about their job or having bad social skills. often it is just someone having a bad day, or because the interaction got off on the wrong foot. i would love to boycott companies that consistently provide bad customer service, but this would have nothing to do with boycotting companies that hire latinos.

Excellent idea. I propose we close down all US colleges, that way we have plenty of "good people" in the service industry. We can sacrifice our high-paying professional jobs (Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, Business people) for low-paying service industry jobs. That way you don't have to hear Spanish or get "bad service" and we won't turn into a 3rd world country economically, because as you have briliantly pointed out, it is an abundence of unskilled, service industry jobs that keeps a country's economy going.

Take an economics class.
