they won't work. there is always a gang of unscrupulous people ready to crack any security measure we try to put in place. it will just be another expensive white elephant |

People can we say soviet union, when they stop you and ask for your papers, and god forbid if you don't have them.
you can have freedom, or you can have security, but you can't have both. you have to give up one to get the other.
And as far as implants go, I for one don't want to be treated like the family pet. |

Well I don't see how any one can go without them. In America at least. If you look under 30 your gonna get carded while entering clubs, or bars. If you want to go out you just have to have one. |

You mean like DRIVERS' LICENSES and SOCIAL SECURITY cards? Golly, what a radical idea. Us LEGAL Americans already have 'em. |
|

The debate is on whether that would work, or just end up being another jobs program....this time, in Tijuana, copying new fake ID's. |

No. In a week when some councils are already putting chips in wheelie bins it shows that this government is going power crazy.
Blair will not be happy until everyone is chipped, pinned and sold off to the great god of capitalism in the sky.
I will not carry a card, and I will even go to jail if necessary. |

yeah, and then when you lose your ID card, you get sent to a prison camp for the rest of your life unless someone can come and claim you, maybe for a $15,000 fee. That's a great idea. Lets have a police state. rock on, dude. You've got your head right in the money spot, don't you? |

coyotecoup

no, screw you, seriously
I want this to be a FREE country |

Yes, as long as the requirements would insure that the person applying for the id card is really who they say, that there are guidelines for using them etc, etc |

It already is manditory for adults to have I.D. It's been that way for years. It has nothing to do with immigration. The people who don't have them are either here illegally or the criminal type. A lot of them have fake I.D.'s. It's becoming a pretty big problem. |

Legal immigrants already have ID cards, with their fingerprint on. Illegal immigrants don't. So it would create a black market for illegal fake ID, wouldn't it?
The govt has a really bad track record on large scale I.T. projects. The DNA database, the NHS database, the Housing Benefit and DSS and tax have all run massively over budget and taken months to fix.
You'd think that credit card companies would have a vested interest in being secure but all the main servers have been hacked and tens of thousands of account details stolen. That was kept quiet.
How many people had their ID stolen today, their credit card used illegally, there is NO WAY to keep this info 100% safe and secure.
If you knew more about I.T. you'd be very, very concerned at the proposal. Nobody benefits.
Explain exactly how a legitimate ID card stops crime? Terrorists have passports and driving licences, thats ID.
Don't complain that the NHS and schools are short of cash then propose wasting £3 billion plus on this. |

a TRUE AMERICAN and proud to be!

i have a US fish permit, which is even better than a passport. |
