They should have a .50 Bmg on deck, they should have small arms and be trained in using them. Whats the normal arms compliment for a civilian ship? a flare gun and a .38 webley. Every crew member should be trained and issued with a small arm. Obviously not accessible at all times but readily accessible under the captains orders. But ultimately it should be down to the corrupt African Governments to start patrolling their own waters, if they can't do it then cal in the Navies who can. |

I would say it was sensible to put some minimal defensive weapons on these ships. I also think a contingent of say 20 well armed marines (of any nationality) should be assigned to each vessel when in the area. These marines could be put onto the vessels when they enter the area, and 'shuttled' off the vessels when they reached a safe area.
I would also like to see an AWACS patrolling above with the ability to call in air strikes. The USA have the Spectra gunships, basically converted C130's which would be a poetic justification for their use. Bristling with Gattling guns and a 120 mm howitzer, you could call down a hail of armour piercing bullets within only a few minutes of calling for assistance if they could have them circling in strategic places.
Proper defence doesn't come cheap though, the prices of oil and other goods would need to go up! So we would all have to pay for it. |

i dont think they should, since there is issues with smuggling, would make things worse.
But if they are in area's were they needed some kind of safety measure, there should be escort ships with people who can use weapons effectivly. |
