Is living as an illegal Mexican immigrant worth the American dream?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is living as an illegal Mexican immigrant worth the American dream?

I'm in high school and I'm writing a paper on the thought that the American dream isn't worth living as an illegal immigrant because you confront racism, have to manage an unsteady job, and might be placing loved ones in danger. I'm tying this into the book called tortilla curtain by t.c. Boyle.Any help would be great, websites, comments anything!! thanks :)

well, you better figure out and explain how an illegal alien is confronted by racism.... its impossible. What they are confronted by are patriotic Americans demanding the laws be upheld and our nation defended! These school teachers are nut jobs.... brainwashing the kids into trying to figure out how to justify their illegal alien invasion and build sympathy doing it. Its not about race...why dont you write about what its really about....stealing the American Dream, an illegal alien's dream!

What if the shoe were on the other foot and all us gringo's kept sneaking into Mexico and took jobs that were scarce, soaked up on your health and welfare all taxpayer supported - and destroyed your dreams while you were trying to seek yours. Because that's what your doing to us - OH - yes you do make allot of employers rich and give allot of facilitators a job but to the average American your cutting out throats especially now in these tough economic times.

ProUSA2
Being opposed to illegal criminal aliens isn't "racism".

An illegal criminal aien isn't a "race". The U.S. deported illegal criminal aliens from over 180 countries last year, comprising every race on earth.

P.S.

"Mexican" isn't a race either...it's an nationality...someone from a particular COUNTRY.

Obviously it's worth it. At least for them. That' s why so many are crossing the border at this very moment. As you can see americans allow them to come here and I mean the governor as well as employers and regular americans. First of all there is and "anchor law" (you might want to look more imfo about it) but basically it says that anybody born on american soil become american citizen. So do the math with me here. The parents cross the borders and giving a birth to their many kids over here. They are automatically americans. They let them go to school here and are hoping they won't get caught till their kids are 18 so the american kid can sponsor them to get a green card and eventually become a citizen. Also when they come over here for some reason they do not pay for health insurance becasue they are not employed ( at least not legally) and also don't pay taxes. So imagine how happy your parents would be if they didn't have to pay taxes or for doctor's visit whatsoever. Ans the other reason why they live here better than at home where nothing is free and comparing what they were making there and the places they were living there this is a paradise for them. So it's worth it. And for illegal is easy to find a job because the raising taxes will force the businesses to hire illegalls so they can cut money they have to claim for workers. So it's like a circle that it's hard to reform. And the other thing is language. Instead of Latino learning english language america adjusting by having Spanish as a second language everywhere so they are not force to learn the language. So unless we stop adjusting to them and make it seasy on them it's always going to be a paradise for them here in America.

Sorry dude , the American dream is in foreclosure.

Here's my take on it, kid:

I guess to them it's way easier than dealing with their own rotten-to-the core government and their real boss--the cartels.
Oh, by the way, know that all illgal Hispanic people consider the enforcement of law and order "Racism".

Over and over again, racism is suggested, and when you attempt to see what is called racism, it cannot be found, or it is so generalized you have no idea what is being discussed. Racism DOES exist in the illegal alien community itself but the racism they discuss in the American Society doesn't exist for the most part, and in far, far less portions than in any other society in the Hemisphere.

The Unsteady job is a factor of the wages and position. When you fill a job almost anyone else in town can fill, you cannot expect to move with the job.. and clearly, you are hired for other than long term in most cases. And while you may well be placing loved ones in danger, the danger seldom comes from American Citizens: it comes from ..other.. illegal aliens who know this fact: the wages of illegal aliens go down in direct proportion to the number of illegal aliens available for a particular job. Something job seekers have faced always, and of all walks of life.

it is incredibly rude to come to the United States with almost nothing to offer in terms of skills or trade, and when you are not accepted as a full fledged member, resort to name calling of that sort. Yet that is very exactly what they did. It is over reaching by a tremendous amount to assume the Tortilla Curtain has anything to offer unless you speak the border Spanish.. which has little in common with Spanish, and actually live the life for a while. But the very, very clear support of the illegal aliens by La Raza has made the answers you would get from those illegal aliens, tainted in such a way that their chances would be improved, impossiable to accept if you lived the life.

And when we finally get to the boiled down crux of the issue, we discover it is almost overwhelmingly ugly to come to this country and demand the American Taxpayer be punished while the illegal aliens are supplied what they need to survive in this society.

There isn't an American Dream in American for people who do not speak, read, or write the language and almost all of them do not. There is not a dream when you have an organization committing active fraud that most people see through very quickly.. and that folks on the border see through very, very quickly.

What fools Americans have been to allow this very ugly issue to go this long without demanding resolution. The war saved it.. the economic meltdown will partially save it.. but it should have had a stake in its heart a long, long time ago. Bush created the monster.. and perhaps it will kill us yet.

I believe this, heart mind body and soul. If we could help Mexico achieve a stable and progressive place, it would be worth a lot to the United States. It would be excellent for the People of Mexico. It could also be that Mexico would wind up offering more than our country if those reforms could be put into place. And finally, I believe very seriously, allowing the excess population to come to the United States is very, very wrong, and will wind up hurting both our countries. I also believe our Congress just won't bite the bullet and do those things which punish the corruption.. and support the efforts to clean up Mexico. We cannot continue as we are though.

I don't know about all that jargon that you spewed out but I think that to an illegal Mexican the American dream is to come here pop out a few Bambino and get all the welfare that our government can give them. They wont learn to speak our language but they sure know how to get all the welfare they can get. They need to be deported and our country needs to take away THEIR AMERICAN DREAM by not giving them anything free.Let them have their babies by other illegals let them eat beans and rice if that is all they can afford.I can tell you the moment that they dont get welfare they will return home.....

First lets address this this "racisim" statement.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT is a criminal status, NOT A RACE. So a person that is agaisnt ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS CAN NOT BE A RACIST. Now that we ahve that out of the way lets addres another part of your question.

An ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT can not live the "AMERICAN DREAM" because they are ILLEGAL and NOT AMERICANS, therefore there is no way for them to be living the American Dream, it is called that because AMERICAN live that dream.

Bein an ILELGAL INVADER puts not ony the ILELGALS loved ones in danger it also put AMERICAN CITIZENS in danger.

Why thier dreams are more important than the dreams of American citizens is beyond me but according to our beloved politicians it is, so huh, still wondering.

Why do Mexicans want to come to the US illegally? I think the US government needs to tighten border patrols, increase border patrol guards, and equip each guard with a high powered rifle with orders to "Shoot to kill". The bodies should be left where they lay. When Mexicans see that the US means business, they may think twice before coming here illegally.

Zero tolerance for illegal aliens.

no it isn't worth it! go back to mexico no one wants you here!

I'm Your Captain
From their perspective, yes!

Did you know that you can buy a very, very, very nice house in Mexico for between 30 and 50K? I mean very, very nice (like 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, or whatever.)

100K gets you a mansion, depending on the region. Even 10-20K gets you something decent.

So, if you have a family of 10 and you all go to the US to work for 5 years, with each person saving at least 20K (entirely possible even for a minimum wage earner sharing a house with 10 people), do the math and see how that family will be living in the future when they get back to Mexico. Maybe a gigantic 10 bedroom house. Or several smaller houses. Don't forget that they'll take back a few cars and trucks. The remainder will be used to start a small business that will generate at least 50-100 bucks a day, more than enough to feed the whole family.

I wish there was a country that paid 10x more than the US that I could go to for a few years. I'd be there!

ILLEGAL ALIENS are not wanted, they are criminals, send billions out of the country, don't want to assimilate into American society, start violent drug gangs, don't bother to learn English, drive down property values, drive down the value of work, heavily burden social services, and as far as "Racism" goes Mexican=White according to the U.S. census bureau, as far as placing loved ones in danger, maybe they need to think about the results before they take a course of action, and, in general all legal immigrants suffer from the actions of the illegal aliens, and their lifestyles

Alena T pretty much sums this up...I totally agree 100% of course its worth it or they would not come here....our government lets them f us....they know they get all kinds of stuff free from us TAXPAYERS...have dozens of kids, they don't have to pay for....you know it is happening....My son in law has a landscaping business in the last 3 years while he was working and his trucks are locked up, lawnmowers, blowers, his landscaping equipment was stolen from him. He is watched while he goes into the back yards to go to work the locks, chains are cut from his truck and everything is stripped from him. Guess who is doing this? Mexican guys....when he returned to his truck people that are scared to say anything to the guys while they are doing the stealing, told him that this is what happened. They gave him a license plate number to find the truck was a stolen vehicle. No we don't want them here for so many obvious reasons, if they were here legally paid their taxes, quit bringing trouble with them stop stealing....maybe I would look at it in a different perspective....My son in law has 3 kids to feed of his own, he pays his taxes, does not steal...so what happens it ends up costing him in the 3 break ins close to $30,000.00. The drink they drive, they killed a friend of mine.....nothing happens, no insurance either.

Hi, for many mexicans its worth because they really have nothing in here(mx), because of ignorance, poverty and discrimination.
Discrimination is very real in Mexico, I think almost everybody have experienced it even "white" mexicans.
But I think that the REAL reason they leave Mexico is because there is a SYSTEM that allows them to do that, I mean a huge network of persons involved in the trafficking of people. The system gone and only few -DoItYourself - people will do that

I found a quote, that i think describes what mexican-middle class-youth feels
"I don't know why I want to do these things, other than my desire to escape from Small Town, U.S.A., to dismiss the boundaries, to explore. It isn't a bad place where I grew up, but there was nothing going on but the cornfields. My life experience came from watching movies, watching TV and reading books and looking at magazines. And when your ******* culture comes from watching TV every day, you're bombarded with images of things that seem cool, places that seem interesting, people who have jobs and careers and opportunities. None of that happened where I was. You're almost taught to realize it's not for you. „

With the way Mexico's economy is right now, and the increase in Drug Cartel violence, it's way worth it to live in the US even if you have to deal with racist idiots like the ones you run into in this section....LOL. I wouldn't worry about them though! it's only a handful of people that have no friends, and love to rant and rave about something they have no clue about. The US will always have jobs Americans refuse to do, and that's the reason immigrants are still coming. The Obama administration knows how important they are to our economy, that it's caused them to move immigration to the bottom of the list of things to take care of....and one way to deal with immigration reform is AMNESTY!

It seems to be the only answer for many people, particularly from Mexico which does not govern itself well.

Imagine life so bad at home that you'd rather live here with all the negative things you receive from the local population, and you'd be more prosperous than at home.

My parents ( legal immigrants from Europe ) went through a lot in order to be allowed to migrate, and were never sorry. Of course, they WANTED to become American, not stay German but living here. And they prospered beyond their wildest dreams, which would have been impossible in Germany at that time.

Yeah, I guess it's worth it to many people - obviously - as illegal trespassers keep coming in.

One thing I rarely see, in all the arguing and squabbling out there, is the average Mexican immigrant putting there opinion in without being countered with stubbornness. I'm not saying anyone is stupid in this matter, I respect everyone's hypotheses as being well thought through. But I encourage you all, whichever side you have put yourselves on, to remember who these people are. We volley arguments amongst ourselves with little regard to whose lives we hold in our hands. Our efforts are not useless, so keep trying; but remember them. They are real people, and so are we.
