Is mass immigration the real reason for Labour's unpopularity?
|
Additional Details Nicola H I think you right and most other replies give mass immigration as the reason. The country is in despair and I believe Labour is about to go out of office for decades due to mass immigration and forced multicultrism

Its one of many reasons
Stealth taxes is another, ludicrus fuel prices, high crime, crap sentencing of criminals, civil liberties being eroded, more rights for criminals than for innocent people, corruption in government, government not listenning to the people who put them in power in the first place, refusal to admit when they are wrong, going off to 2 un-winnable wars at once............
The list goes on, but yeah immigration is an issue as well |

Yes, and no. Partially yes though it's a little more involved than that. They're manipulative, unethical, self serving, exploitative, inept, mendacious, garrulous (they never shut up), vulpine and thoroughly unwholesome. |

Remember the government said there might be 13000 people coming to the UK from Eastern Europe. As many as a million could have come here.
These people don't affect the middle or upper classes. They compete directly with the working class for scarce acommodation. They put pressure on schools and other social services.
But it wasn't Labour who let them come. It was the fact that we're in the EEC.
As others have mentioned earlier, Tony Blair's illegal war hasn't added to Labour's popularity. |

I think mass immigration and the EU are both entwined they are one and the same. I would pick immigration as the number 1 reason because you can't get away from the results of it! Wherever you go its there. The government are compounding their criminality by falsifying figures and keeping the real state of the country away from the main body of people. |

I've come in late to this one, but i think Nicola H speaks for loads of people
I for one think it is a mixture of immigration, multiculturism, all the laws we have to obey from the EU and the mess some politicians have got themselves into.
Labour used to be the voice of the people, now they are the voice of the foreign people |

no...& it's because of European laws that people are flooding in - and who took us into Europe?!! |

I totally agree with Nicola H and when British taxpayers have to see immigrants claiming benefits and being given social housing, while they themselves are being denied these things, it makes Labour even more unpopular.
I wonder why the attack on the priest by these muslim youths hasn't made headline news? I notice the BBC has been very quiet about it. If a group of white British youths had attacked a Muslim Cleric, smashing the windows of his mosque and screaming "this should be a church" can you imagine the furore?!
"Immigration" is not a problem, small numbers of previously vetted, professional people with needed skills, coming here to work and support themselves - noone has a problem with that. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants coming to compete with the working classes for jobs and homes or (even worse) to scrounge benefits does cause a problem and resentment. But as a previous poster says, these problems don't affect the middle and upper classes, they're just glad of the cheap labour. |

Mass immigration may be the most serious and far reaching but it is only a manifestation of Labour's loathing of Britain and the British. This loathing becomes more and more evident as Labour increases its Stalinist grip on the country.
So many of our ancient rights have been demolished and been replaced by concepts which are alien to us, particularly their latest idea of recruiting an army of council and government narks from ordinary people. The suppression of Christianity together with the encouragement of all other religions together with political brainwashing in our schools.
Here be monsters! |

Lot of factors, but the main one is -much like the democrats in the US during the eighties- they have managed to position themselves to appear to be a party only interested in minorities. To be honest there is no reason why someone who is white and working class should vote for them. If the BNP or a party like it could find a convincing leader the Labour party would find much of it's traditional core vote decamping at a rate of knots. |

Ivan The Vikings, the Normans and the Romans etc were all highly successful and technologically advanced for the time unlike the latest immigrants.
They were also few in number, there were only 2 million people in the now UK at the time of William the Conqueror, we now have that number of Muslims in the UK |

It's one of the main factors.
Everyone is rightly uncomfortable with immigration on the scale we are experiencing now, that and a spineless police force and judiciary that allows immigrant communities to flagrantly flout the law in respect of motoring offences, drug peddling, tax evasion, incitement to violence and disrespect towards the indigenous population in the host communities.
This is not a White thing, the long established Caribbean community in Bristol is suffering due to the large influx of Somalians who get preference in social housing and other services.
The jobs a lot of these incomers are doing ( those that work) could be done by our own resident population if our benefits system was administered efficiently so that it wasn't so easy to fiddle.
Why aren't more so-called asylum seekers from Albania etc returned now that their country is stable?
Everyone I work with ( 35 guys on the shop floor) are trade union members and voted Labour at the last 2 elections........ I get the impression that not one will be voting Labour next time!
We work long and hard and pay our dues........then the Gov't takes the piss out of us! |

There will always be an England

Yes he has no backbone to do anything about it either...we are overrun with immigrants, but i heard that most Poles have made their money now and are going home as the Polish economy has picked up....I really hope so... |

Yes!But there are other policies as well!On this issue alone they have no answer to rectify the problem!Another is the inept leadership!Along with their poor fiscal policies! |

Well it hasn't done them any favours. But the recent Polish 'gold rush' is very disheartening. The programme "the poles are coming" showed a school in peterborough where one child in the whole school had english as their first language, does anyone else have a problem with this. Why are we undergoing this recent spate of compulsory multi-culturalism?
But watching that poles are coming programme got me thinking. I noticed how the polish girls saying all the men had gone to western germany. Does anyone remember what the american soldiers got up to when they came over here before d-day. Im going to Poland this summer to have some fun. Every cloud has a silver lining ;) |

Hello,
(ANS) in my opinion Mass Immigration here in the UK presents a massive level of contradiction.
why? because on the one hand Great Britain's history shows many waves of immigration going back thousands of years from The Vikings, The Normans, The Romans, etc through to the second world war when many people came to the UK to escape the Nazi's & war in Europe, & 1960's & 1970's when large numbers of people came to the UK from old colonies of the British Empire such as the Carribean or India & to escape the dictator Eddi Amine in Uganda.
*Note: Under Tony Blair's administration, New Labors immigration policy was totally naive and VERY BADLY THOUGHT OUT !! (in my view) new labor opened the flood gates to eastern European immigration during the last ten years. The new labor estimates at the time were that roughly 10,000 people would come into the UK. 245,000 people later and the result is now history.
**I don't object to immigrants but I think new labor policy on this subject has created a whole range of extra & unnecessary problems across the country due to extra pressures on local & public services such as transport, housing & health from increased numbers of people.
