Is the whole immigration debate really that important?

Yes the whole illegal immigration issue is important because, historically, one of the tell tale signs of the downfall of a society is the mass influx of immigrants who leech more from the community than they contribute.

I am not sure how the genocide that is in the world, and our actions in Iraq have anything to do with our immigration problem, unless you are trying to make some equivocation between Mexicans "stealing" this country and our bombing effectively "robbing" Iraq. If that is your assertion, I see one fallacy.

Iraq disobeyed international laws, hence there were consequences to pay for their actions. Now I do not agree with the current administration's policy of preemptive invasion. The bombing campaign that has transpired over the past ten years worked effectively to curtail the production of weapons of mass destruction. So there was no justification for our invasion. Now Mexican's have no right to enter our country under the same premise that we attacked Iraq because we have not disregarded any international directive. Hence Mexico and the illegal immigrants that cross the boarder are the ones in the breach of law.

Disease, risk of terrorist freely crossing our border, U.S. citizens paying for illegals health care and food, illegals not paying their share of taxes, and 27% of the jail population is illegals taking up room. If illegals are in jail then they must be breaking our laws. NO! it is nothing like flag buring or gay marriage. It is a direct threat to homeland security and taking advantage of America's citizens.

Come and live in the LA area for a few months and the answer to the first question will be clear. If you'd like a quick answer, it's "yes." Most people in the U.S. have no real idea what's happening since it hasn't reached them yet.

I suggest you find some RELIABLE sites and read up on it.....illegal immigration is out of control the money spent on illegals is astronomical!! Don't believe me just search for how much your state spends on health care for illegals then do a nationwide search......

The debate is not over IMMIGRATION, for the zillionth time!! NO one as far as I know is against LEGAL immigration. ILLEGAL immigration is totally different. Because of the mass influx of illegal invaders from across the USA's border with Mexico, we now have TOO MANY UNDOCUMENTED people here. The only way to get control is to close our borders, deport ILLEGAL invaders and lower the numbers immigrating into the USA overall until the USA can recoup some of our losses from the abuse of our tax-paid programs. (by millions of people who are not suppose to be in the USA, and should never have been given that ASSISTANCE at the taxpayers expense!!)

In answer to your question, the immigration debate is important to people in America because that is where we live. Especially those of us in the Southwest. We don't mind immigrants. We are having problems with people who work here but aren't immigrating here and all that. Read a few of the posts if you really want to understand. If not, go to one of the kazillion middle east war aka WW3 posts and discuss there.

That depends. Do you have a job someone who doesn't speak English can do for a lot less pay? Do you think it is fair to run a welfare state where anyone can receive money just because they made it into the country illegally? Is it important to your community for all of its citizens to integrate to help make a better life rather than having segregation and conflict? Do you mind spending billions of dollars that could be used for hungry children to allow foreign criminals to roam free? If not, then No.
