There has been no legislation to make any language the official language. |

You know there isn't.
There isn't a law stating that a particular language needs to be spoken , under penalty of law.
The United States more than any other country due to its very diverse immigrant population needs to have common language for business, education, and government.
Whatever language people speak at home, or with their friends...that is their business.
I grew up in New Jersey...there were people that spoke Italian at home and amongst themselves....likewise with Polish and Hungarian.
But they could readily shift to English.
If a child is born in the United States, Then four or five years later enters school unable to Speak ANY English.
What do you attribute this to?
The Unfairness of American Society?
Or Lazy stupid stubborn parents?
They do a disservice to their children and they guarantee another generation of fruit pickers.
Which will then be blamed on the unfairness of American society.
RIGHT? |

Honestly, there was for about three minutes. Then the stupid senators amended the bill to call English the "common" language. I hope the House stands their ground and won't allow this bill to go to Pres Bush to sign! Go to www.congress.gov and search for bill # S. 2611. Then to view amendments. You will be amazed at what we are paying these idiots to do! |

English. It's always been a requirement to graduate from school. But then again, some people dont go to school to realize that and they think it's some other language. If they went to school then they would know what the word "illegal" means. |

English. It was officially voted on by the Senate and the House a few days ago. |

DAR

No, but many states have adopted English as their official language.
The Senate bill would make English the "National" language which is not the same as an official language, since everything will still be translated.
It would be like 'National Postage Stamp Day', just something you can look up if you want to. |

Not yet, I think if the Senate bill passes, it will be.
But I think DAR is right about some of the states. |

Here in Canada we have two, so I think it's about time the US makes up your mind. I remember going to Florida and everything was in Spanish, there's no harm in making English the official language, you have to keep your heritage. |
